Saskatoon Islamic Academy (SIA) is a newly established Independent School committed to delivering high-quality elementary education fully aligned with Saskatchewan Ministry of Education curriculum standards, while integrating Islamic teachings and values. We serve a diverse and vibrant community in Saskatoon and are preparing for steady growth in future grades. We are seeking a visionary, passionate, and highly qualified Principal who will lead our educational and operational efforts while fostering a safe, inclusive, and faith-centred learning environment.
Position Summary
The Principal serves as the school's educational and administrative leader, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The Principal is responsible for overseeing all aspects of academic programming, staff supervision, student development, school operations, community relations, regulatory compliance, and the integration of Islamic education.
Key ResponsibilitiesEducational Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and support teaching staff in delivering the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education curriculum.
- Ensure instructional excellence, classroom management, and continuous academic improvement.
- Integrate Islamic values, character education, and moral development into school culture while respecting Canadian educational standards.
- Oversee the development and delivery of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language programs.
Administrative Leadership
- Develop and implement school policies and procedures in compliance with Saskatchewan regulations for Registered Independent Schools.
- Ensure the proper management of student records, protection of student privacy, and compliance with Ministry reporting requirements.
- Prepare school schedules, calendar, supervision plans, and emergency procedures.
- Manage school facilities, safety protocols, and occupational health standards.
Human Resources
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate teachers and staff.
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, and professional work environment.
- Lead staff professional development, performance evaluations, and conflict resolution.
Student Support & Well-being
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school climate for all students.
- Implement student discipline policies in accordance with school procedures and human rights codes.
- Partner with parents to support student academic and personal growth.
Financial & Operational Management
- Work collaboratively with the School Director and Board to prepare budgets and allocate resources.
- Ensure effective use of tuition revenue, grants, and fundraising initiatives to support school sustainability.
Community Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison to parents, community members, the Ministry of Education, and partner organizations.
- Promote the school's mission to the broader Saskatoon community.
- Represent the school at Ministry compliance meetings, inspections, and professional networks.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed.) - required.
- Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or Administration - strongly preferred.
- Certification:
- Valid Saskatchewan Professional 'A' Teacher Certificate (SPTRB).
- Principal preparation program or equivalent leadership training preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of successful elementary teaching experience.
- Previous leadership experience as Principal, Vice-Principal, Department Head, or Instructional Leader strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Familiarity with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education curriculum and independent school regulations.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities.
- Financial literacy and school operations management experience.
- Capacity for community engagement and relationship-building.

- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to balance faith-based education with academic rigor and inclusivity.
Legal Eligibility:
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and pass criminal background and vulnerable sector checks.
