Natural Gas Scheduler

Gas Alberta Energy provides advisory and supply services to electricity and natural gas consumers in Alberta and is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Natural Gas Scheduler to join their Marketing Services team.

The Position

This role is essential in managing the flow of natural gas through pipelines, ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of gas to customers. This role requires a strong understanding of pipeline operations, regulatory requirements, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. The Natural Gas Scheduler works closely with the Manager, Trading and the Natural Gas Market and Supply Analyst to provide competitive consumer pricing and maximize trading opportunities in the Alberta natural gas market. This role will require the incumbent to work a minimum of one (1) weekend per month, as well as Statutory holidays (Both Canadian and U.S.) on a rotational basis. The Company currently operates under a "hybrid" work model.

Key Areas of Accountability and Responsibility

Scheduling

- Estimate, plan, and coordinate the movement of natural gas based on customer demands and pipeline capacity.

- Monitor pipeline activity by tracking gas flow, identifying potential issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

- Utilize an Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system to capture and balance all trading activity with corresponding pipelines and counterparties.

- Responsible for all trade confirmation processes.

- Maintain, enter, verify all credit reports.

- Problem solving which includes identifying and resolving any issues that may arise with the scheduling of natural gas, such as pipeline capacity constraints or unexpected changes in demand.

- Balance pipelines in internal systems to meet Accounting/Billing and Internal Control requirements.

- Create and verify transactions, confirmations and netting statements.

Trading

- Maintain a fundamental understanding of Alberta's supply demand trend analysis, including tracking market trends, identifying potential opportunities, and communicating trading implications to internal stakeholders.

- Collaborate closely with the Manager, Trading and Natural Gas Market Supply Analyst, by contributing to daily trading and scheduling activities as needed.

- Weekend and holiday rotation required to ensure continuous operational support.

- Vacation coverage when needed.

Professional Experience and Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in business, or related field, will be considered an asset.

- 3+ years of experience in natural gas scheduling.

- Experience working with ETRM systems, with knowledge of Hitachi TRMTracker considered an asset.

- Experience with NGTL, ATCO, APEX, and TransGas pipelines.
