The Crump Group Inc., a large & rapidly growing pet food manufacturer based in Mississauga Ontario and Nashville North Carolina is seeking a dynamic, results oriented Research & Development (R&D) Specialist.

Job Overview

We are looking for a qualified Research and Development Specialist. In the position of R&D Specialist, provide assistance and reporting to the R&D Director in all aspects of day-to-day duties to include the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the formulation of new products and improving current - researching and sourcing ingredients, conducting benchtop testing, coordinating and attending plant trials, completing third-party certification requirements, and bringing our visions to life!
  • Assist on design and develop testing plans and protocols for new products.
  • Work in collaboration with the R&D team.
  • Direct and coach co-op students when required.
  • Plan, and execute experiments at all scales, gathering and analyzing data, documenting and reporting results, and making recommendations that are data-driven
  • Support Regulatory and QA initiatives to assure all specifications (formulation, labelling) are accurately developed and compliant with regulations (CFIA, FDA, AAFCO)
  • Work with processing team to secure new product development success to commercial scale.
  • Assist conducting scientific experiments to assess, monitor, and improve product formulation, costs, quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of all technical work and documentation.
  • Support overall timeline development and project management initiatives

  • Food Science: meat science, food rheology, experimental design, statistics
  • Food Engineering: mass and energy balance, thermodynamics, statistics.
  • Highly organized and able to work and balance the needs of several projects.

A Few Extra Ingredients

  • Bachelors of Science in Food Science or Food Engineering. At least one year experience in the food industry (co-op experience valid).
  • knowledge in product development/R&D
  • knowledge of product development, food processing and engineering, food chemistry, and nutrition
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and excellent record-keeping
  • Ability to juggle multiple balls at once while finding efficiencies in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional partners from several departments in the organization.
  • Good with Excel, Word, and related software
