Position Summary/Objective:
Reporting to the QA & Regulatory Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with food Safety and Quality Management Programs, regulatory compliance, specific customer requirements as well as compliance to all certification requirements.
This job is onsite and requires at a minimum 75 % of the day spent in production or as required per business needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate and uphold Core Values.
- Take OWNERSHIP of food Safety and Quality Management Programs for assigned sites which includes maintenance, implementation and verification of procedures, documents, validations and processes to ensure compliance to internal programs, GFSI, claim certifications and government regulations.
- Own the onsite GMP and food safety program.
- Serve as the backup for QA & Regulatory Manager for food safety and quality compliance related concerns/issues.
- Maintain Quality and Sanitation programs (e.g document control, allergen validations, EMP program, swabbing, sanitation validations, water quality testing, etc) complying to internal policies and standards.
- Assist with updating the food safety systems to ensure compliance with existing or changing regulatory/third party requirements.
- Write, develop and update standard operating procedures and food safety documents including but not limited to HACCP plans, SOPs, sanitation SOPs and other GFSI scheme related documents.
- Analyze microbiological and product analysis data to provide food safety and quality recommendations to management as required for continuous improvement and product safety.
- Conduct a variety of weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly internal audits (GMP, lightning, Glass inspections, Security inspection etc.)
- Maintain and verify that daily, weekly and monthly sanitation tasks have been completed and records are up to date.
- Complete verification of all quality process control/ assurance and CCP records and follow up on any deviations noted.
- Ensure pre-operational inspection records are complete and accurate.
- Deliver quality, food safety and orientation training to all employees on regular basis as required.
- Maintain and verify that hold logs are complete, up to date and issues are resolved in a timely manner
- Take ownership of the CAPA program and reports - conduct root cause analysis, including corrective actions and preventive measures for non conformities, supplier and customer complaints.
- Ensure full transparency and maintain communication channel with QA & Regulatory Manager on any non-conformities identified.
- Assists in issuing non conformances to suppliers as required.
- Responsible for verification and calibration of all test equipment in the plant including qualification of new equipment and calibration and maintenance of existing equipment according to outlined program frequencies
- Conduct monthly food safety meetings and food safety culture trainings
- Monitor and verify CCP equipment and implement corrective actions and training when needed
- Work closely with Supply Chain to ensure incoming raw materials are reviewed and released for use in a timely manner on SAP.
- Assist QA & Regulatory Manager and/or Regulatory Coordinator in artwork approval and supplier compliance, as and when needed.

Reporting Relationships
The position reports directly to the QA & Regulatory Manager. There are no direct reports.
Education & Qualifications
- BSc in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science or a related field
- Third-party HACCP trained
- BRC Professional (or other GFSI certification training) and PCQI certification holder preferred
- A minimum of 3 years of Quality Assurance/ Regulatory experience in human and/or pet food manufacturing for the coordinator level.
- Knowledge and experience in quality and food safety regulations for Canada, the U.S. and globally (including GMPs, HACCP and GFSI fundamentals)
- Knowledge and experience of conducting risk analysis, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of ERP software, preferably SAP.
- Must have working knowledge and be comfortable/adept with Microsoft tools, data analysis and reporting.
- Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and handle tight deadlines.
- Must be flexible with work hours and be available to come on weekends occasionally, as required.
