The Opportunity
- Our client, a leading international contractor with an exceptional global track record in major infrastructure and civil engineering works, is seeking to appoint a Country Commercial Lead to spearhead all commercial operations in Canada.
- Based in Toronto, this strategic role is a critical part of the company's leadership team and offers the unique opportunity to shape commercial strategy, governance, and performance at a national level.
- This position is suited to a highly experienced and commercially astute individual with deep knowledge of the North American construction landscape, particularly across large-scale civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all commercial and contractual activities across Canadian operations
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on commercial strategy and risk
- Oversee procurement and contract negotiation processes from pre- to post-tender
- Drive the implementation of robust commercial strategies and frameworks
- Manage quantity surveying, valuations, and final accounts for major projects
- Support resolution of contractual disputes and ensure effective contract administration
- Mentor and lead a high-performing commercial team
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, JV partners, and supply chain stakeholders
- Report to the regional Managing Director on commercial performance and outlook
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years' experience in commercial or contract management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity
- Strong commercial background gained in major civil infrastructure projects in North America
- Thorough understanding of FIDIC, NEC, and/or North American standard forms of contract
- Educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Chartered status with RICS, CICES, or equivalent is highly desirable
- Demonstrated track record in managing large-scale contracts, claims, and disputes
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Based in or willing to relocate to Toronto, with the right to work in Canada
