About Bruyère Health Long-Term Care Programs

Bruyère Health operates two long-term care (LTC) facilities: Élisabeth-Bruyère Long-Term Care, which is located near the Byward Market in downtown Ottawa and Saint-Louis Long-Term Care, which is located in a peaceful setting on the banks of the Ottawa River in Orléans. Both locations offer the residents a caring, family-friendly, intimate and secure environment. What would my role be?

Reporting to the Manager, Resident Experience and Quality, you will provide leadership and direction for the high-quality delivery of therapeutic recreation service for Bruyère Health Long-Term Care homes. Your responsibilities will include:

Provide direct oversight for the planning, implementation, direction and evaluation of therapeutic recreation services in keeping with the needs of the residents and in accordance with the standards of practice of the profession in the health care setting.
Work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, resident loved ones and community partners.
Provide support and supervision to the recreation therapists, recreation technicians, recreation assistants (students), weekend assistants and resident support workers, including ensuring essential requirements of the Fixing Long Term Care Act are respected.
Be responsible for recreation-related student placements and supervision and maintain the role of liaison with the universities and professional associations.
Work closely with Volunteer and Spiritual Care services and play a central role in the focus on continuous improvement of the resident experience.
Support a culture of quality, wellness, safety and excellence.
Assist in administrative duties such as schedule planning, payroll, product procurement, etc.

How do I qualify?

Required:

Three (3) year Community College Diploma in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or related field, or a combination of the appropriate skills, knowledge and/or experience deemed equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related role including one (1) year of experience working with older adults or in a healthcare setting which includes administrative and supervisory experience.
Experience in the Long-Term Care sector or knowledge of, including familiarity and understanding of Fixing Long Term Care Act 2021 and best practices, as well as electronic health record systems.
Experience in supervising and training students.
Advanced knowledge of demographic, health and social services and other trends affecting seniors and Long-Term Care residents.
Fluent in French and English (Candidates who do not meet this language requirement are eligible to apply for this position and may be considered if there are no other suitable applicants who meet this requirement).

Preferred:

Registered member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (R/TRO)
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
Long-Term Care experience

Ability to listen to employees, make decisions quickly and support or assign daily work to employees.
