Job Purpose

An opportunity is available for an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Facilities Manager to join a dynamic team within a manufacturing and industrial technology environment. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining EHS management systems, overseeing facility operations, and ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and international standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. The position emphasizes proactive safety leadership, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant workplace for all personnel.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership, training, and consistent communication.
  • Lead and support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and organizational EHS initiatives aligned with continuous improvement.
  • Ensure full compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations at all levels.
  • Act as the primary liaison for regulatory audits and certifications, addressing findings and non-conformities as needed.
  • Maintain required documentation and reporting for regulatory agencies.
  • Co-chair safety committees and lead culture-building and employee engagement efforts.
  • Develop and manage emergency response and business continuity plans, including evacuation and first aid protocols.
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance and operations of manufacturing, laboratory, and office facilities.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainability.
  • Manage building upgrades, equipment installations, and contractor activities.
  • Deliver tailored EHS training programs across all levels of the organization.
  • Equip managers and supervisors with tools such as Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to enhance accountability and safety engagement.
  • Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Analyze incident trends to guide risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and other relevant standards, driving continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage EHS and Facilities budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Support cross-functional teams in improving workplace safety and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Professional safety certification (e.g., CRSP) or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in EHS or facilities management, ideally in a manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to lead without direct authority.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and facility management software.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience with sustainability and energy management programs.
  • Proven ability to develop clear policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
