About the opportunity:

The Supervisor, Sanitation and Production oversees the sanitation program and activities for the site. This role directs and supervises cleaning of the equipment and facility while ensuring employees safely follow established sanitation procedures. Other requirements of the position are supervision of production operations during sanitation shift and maintenance activities in a manufacturing plant of complex and/or large volume, leading continuous improvement initiatives and addressing operational issues to meet sanitation and production KPI's.

The attributes we are looking for:

  • Ensure adherence, compliance and implementation of sanitation programs such as the Master Sanitation Schedule, SOP's and Sanitation Program HACCP requirements. This includes ensuring program elements such as the documentation program, sanitary preventative maintenance, sanitation effectiveness inspections and audits, post-sanitation microbiological verifications, and annual procedure verifications are met.
  • Provide leadership and direction to sanitation employees and leaders to ensure effective and efficient CIP/COP manual cleaning of equipment and building. This includes training teams on proper sanitation procedures and techniques, and monitoring for compliance. Identify and resolve sanitation related issues and concerns.
  • Schedule, direct and delegate sanitation task requirements and tasks to sanitation teams to ensure sanitation requirements are effectively met. Partners with and supports others to coordinate sanitation activities. Maintains accurate and timely sanitation records in compliance to all regulatory, HACCP and GFSI standards.
  • Responsible for a cost-effective sanitation budget through ensuring efficient and effective use of chemicals and cleaning aids, and weekly tracking of chemical consumption to budget. Endevour to improve sanitation costs and performance utilizing support from sanitation vendor technician.
  • Oversee and support operation of the production teams (inclusive of weekend shift) when required, to ensure that quantitative and qualitative measures included in the operating plan are met, including those related to standard costs, cost reductions, productivity, health and safety, good manufacturing practices, customer satisfaction, production scheduling, staffing and capital/technological improvement plans by measuring, analyzing and executing corrective actions in these areas. Promote a focus on excellence in all production activities including those required to support optimal quality, yield and cost containment, and minimal re-work or downgrades.
  • Coordinate planning, priority setting and follow-up of maintenance activities (including during weekend shifts) to facilitate optimum plant performance, including managing maintenance personnel and contractors and complying to ISN standard requirements. Work with maintenance and project engineering teams to optimize maintenance resource utilization.
  • Provide leadership to improve health and safety performance by being a role model in safety and demonstrating due diligence through applying the corporate health & safety program elements. These focus on incident prevention through hazard identification, implementing necessary controls, training, education, and audits. Where necessary, take corrective action to address unsafe situations and employee behaviours, uphold Lactalis' golden and other safety rules and procedures, and communicate with appropriate resources to address any hazardous conditions or unsafe employee conduct.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff by providing work direction, performance feedback, and recommendations for training and development. Promote a positive labour-management relationship and ensure compliance with the Company's corporate and legal obligations under the Collective Agreement (where applicable), as well as various statutes and regulations such as the Employment Standards Act, Workers Compensation Act, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of operational and capital budgets, safety compliance, training and production plans by monitoring results against plan and support corrective action plans accordingly.

What you will bring:

  • College diploma or University degree preferably in Food Science or Engineering
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in food and beverage industry.
  • Experienced as a sanitation supervisor and/or providing leadership to production teams in dairy or related food or pharmaceutical industry. HACCP exposure preferred.
  • Certified and/or experienced in the supervisory responsibilities under WSIB/WCB, OSHA, and First Aid an asset.
  • Advanced organizational skills and demonstrated ability to lead in a unionized environment
  • Strong interpersonal, and verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Solid understanding of CIP/ COP systems.
  • Attention to detail and comprehension technical documents.
  • Ability to diagnose and coordinate activities to resolve mechanical manufacturing issues in food manufacturing
  • Team facilitation/leadership skills and ability to develop employees and implement continuous improvement methodologies
  • Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Lotus Notes, Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), as well as business systems such as SAP.
