Job Description

The House of Commons' Procedural Services is currently looking to staff the Chief of Protocol position on a temporary basis with the possibility of extension and/or indeterminate appointments in the future.

About the Role:

As part of the International and Interparliamentary Affairs team, you play an integral role in the delivery of official visits and events held on behalf of the Canadian Parliament. Within this role, your knowledge of parliamentary protocol equips you and your team to provide recommendations, organize, coordinate, and execute multiple events on behalf of the Speaker, Parliamentarians, Clerks, and other senior Senate and House of Commons officials. In addition, as the manager of the team, you are responsible for recruiting and onboarding new employees and for employee development. Finally, as a lead collaborator with multiple other organizations, government officials, and service providers, you are responsible for fostering sustainable relationships in order to achieve a common goal efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in a field related to the role, such as or similar to hospitality, international relations, public affairs and policy management or government relations, or an acceptable combination of relevant education, experience and training.

Experiences:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading and managing employees within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in planning and coordinating complex projects involving multiple partners.
  • Experience in diplomatic protocol and in supporting meetings and events with foreign dignitaries.
  • Experience in tracking and interpreting daily parliamentary business and political issues, with the ability to provide timely analysis and advice on potential implications for the organization.
  • Experience in providing counsel and advice to senior executives, facilitating problem solving, and collaborating productively and proactively with partners.
  • Experience in negotiation, consultation and networking at an executive level.
