We're Hiring: Lead Instructor - Second Nature School (Ottawa, ON)

About Second Nature

Second Nature School is a neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and child-led therapeutic program that serves elementary-aged children in a nature-based setting. We honour each child's innate wisdom, meet families with compassion, and believe that healing and learning happen best when relationships come first.

At Second Nature, we're not just teaching - we're redefining what it means to be safe, seen, and supported in education.

The Role

We are seeking a Lead Instructor to join our leadership team. This is a full-time, on-site position in Ottawa, ON. As the Lead Instructor, you will guide and mentor a team of Instructor Therapists/Teachers, co-create therapeutic programming, and ensure alignment with Second Nature's values in day-to-day practices.

This role combines educational leadership, therapeutic insight, and team mentorship - ideal for someone who thrives in collaborative environments and believes deeply in the power of relationship-based teaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and support to Instructor Therapists/Teachers
  • Collaborate with the Learning Program Manager to design and refine individualized, trauma-informed, and neuro-affirming programs
  • Model and maintain child-led, low-demand, and nature-based instructional practices
  • Support with onboarding, scheduling, and training of instructional staff
  • Foster a compassionate and respectful culture that supports emotional safety for both staff and students
  • Oversee documentation and progress reporting to ensure quality and consistency
  • Liaise with families and caregivers as needed to ensure wraparound support

What You Bring

  • A deep understanding of neurodiversity, child development, and trauma-informed care
  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities grounded in empathy, patience, and curiosity
  • Experience managing or supervising educators or therapists in therapeutic or educational settings
  • Proven ability to co-create individualized learning and regulation plans
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • A degree or certification in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Experience working with neurodivergent children and/or in nature-based or alternative education settings is a strong asset
  • Ability to work on-site in Ottawa and engage in hands-on, nature-connected learning

Why Work With Us

  • A competitive benefits package that supports your personal and professional wellbeing
  • Access to career coaching, leadership development, and ongoing mentorship
  • A deeply values-driven work environment rooted in safety, connection, and equity
  • A unique opportunity to shape the future of neuro-affirming, child-centered education
  • A community that celebrates curiosity, joy, and growth - for children and adults alike
