Design Technologist
UX Engineering • Design Systems • UI Craft
(12-month contract - Hybrid 3 days/week onsite in Toronto)
We're looking for a Design Technologist to help scale and evolve the design system that powers one of Canada's largest digital ecosystems. You'll bridge design and development-crafting thoughtful UI components and helping teams create cohesive, accessible experiences across platforms.
This is a senior-level, hands-on role for someone who obsesses over the details-typography, spacing, and micro-interactions-and thrives on cross-functional collaboration. You'll work with a high-performing design team, interface closely with engineers, and play a key role in system adoption across product teams.
What you'll do:
- Design and develop high-fidelity, reusable UI components (web-first, with some mobile)
- Evolve and maintain design system libraries (Figma and coded)
- Collaborate with developers to QA and ship polished, accessible UI
- Coach teams on best practices for using the system-through workshops, docs, and 1:1s
- Advocate for design system thinking and craft excellence across the org
You should have:
- 7+ years of experience in design, front-end development, or a hybrid UX engineering role
- Deep Figma expertise (auto layout, tokens, libraries, etc.)
- Hands-on coding skills in HTML, CSS/SCSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with Angular and/or React (you don't have to be a full-stack dev, but you should speak the language)
- A strong eye for detail and a commitment to consistency and accessibility
Bonus points for:
- Familiarity with software APIs or object-oriented programming
- Experience working in large, complex organizations or product ecosystems
- A background in design thinking or user research
- Workshop facilitation skills
