The AIR MILES Reward Program is one of Canada's most recognized loyalty programs, with over 10 million active collector accounts, representing more than half of all Canadian households. AIR MILES collectors earn Reward Miles at more than 300 leading Canadian, global and online brands and at thousands of retail and service locations across the country. AIR MILES is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Bank of Montreal (BMO). BMO is Canada's oldest bank and the 8th largest in North America with more than 12 million customers globally.

Position Overview:

The Data Governance Lead plays a key role in supporting the development and facilitation of a new Data Governance program at AIR MILES, aligned with parent company (BMO) policies and standards.

They are responsible for co-developing and facilitating the adoption and operationalization of mature AIR MILES Data Literacy, Data Oversight, Data Quality and Data Control capabilities.

Using their above average knowledge and experience in Data Governance and Data Management best practices, coupled with strong facilitation and communication skills, the Data Governance Lead collaborates with stakeholders from both AIR MILES and BMO, to align Air Miles Data Governance practices and introduce new capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of a new data governance roadmap for AIR MILES
  • Interpret and operationalize practices and capabilities, aligned with BMO policies, standards and procedures.
  • Work closely with data domain owners and members of all AIR MILES business and technology teams to support the implementation of data governance capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain a set of new data governance deliverables, including data inventories, data mappings, business glossaries, playbooks, and data catalogs.
  • Lead metadata management activities to ensure data governance deliverables are kept up-to-date and ensure all data assets are fully represented in these deliverables.
  • Collaborate with business units to capture and define metadata attributes within the data governance deliverables.
  • Coordinate with business units and technology teams to ensure alignment and adherence to data governance principles.
  • Develop and implement new data quality strategies to ensure data quality measured against the 5 data quality dimensions (completeness, correctness, consistency, currency and conformity).
  • Develop and maintain tools to support Data Literacy, Data Oversight, Data Quality and Data Controls enhancement and operationalization.
  • Define and monitor data management measures and metrics.
  • Support the enforcement of data standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Support data stewardship activities, including data issue resolution, data lineage, and data ownership assignments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive data governance initiatives and ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data governance processes and practices.
  • Collaborate with leadership to articulate the value and benefits of data governance to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Business / Technical Post-Secondary program or demonstrated equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Data Governance and Data Management, within a large FinTech or other heavily regulated industry firm.
  • Experience in facilitating engagements with senior stakeholders and SMEs.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining capabilities within an established data governance framework.
  • Experience in leading the consultative effort of data governance operationalization with business owners and non-technical business leaders.
  • Experience in building and curating data inventories, catalogues and other metadata resources to bridge the gap between the technical and business source data
  • Expert skills in Agile/Program Management, Metadata Management, Reference Data Management, Data Quality, Stakeholder Management, Communications & Training
  • Intermediate skills in Master Data Management, Data Security, and Risk Management.
  • Excellent communication in English
  • Excellent logical and analytical skills - the ability to identify trends, patterns, and insights from data.
  • Possess both an Entrepreneurial and Creative spirit when working within Data Management and Data Governance initiatives.
