Napier-Reid is a leading supplier of engineered water and wastewater treatment systems located in Aurora, Ontario. This position will be working out of the office in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Buyer

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing goods, materials and services to ensure that the company's operational needs are met, considering price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply in accordance with established Napier-Reid standards, policies and procedures.

A strategic thinker who will participate in developing cost reduction initiatives, supply base consolidation, forecasting requirements, assessing risk, building supplier relationships, and issuing Purchase Orders for various locations. Identify nonvalue added activities in the supply chain for potential elimination. Engage in inventory planning, essential stock maintenance and relentlessly doing the little things right is vital to ensure success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and manage the procurement process for goods and services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets across various operations.
  • Develop and maintain a strong foundation of function skills and knowledge of relevant purchasing and sourcing concepts.
  • Manage parts shortages, schedule changes, and ensure changes are reflected within the business operating system.
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
  • Oversee and maintain adequate inventory, across various operating facilities.
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications.
  • Participate in the creation of a positive teamwork environment.
  • Negotiate Supplier Agreements, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers, and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing procurement best practice tools and methods.
  • Assess financial risks of purchases and supply continuity.
  • Prepare purchase orders.
  • Explore alternate sources for goods and materials.
  • Visit suppliers to understand capabilities and capacity.
  • Actively participate in supplier performance reviews.
  • Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and customer service focus.
  • Problem solving, analysis and continuous improvement skills.
  • Experience in negotiation and supplier assessment.
  • Demonstrated abilities with Microsoft Office products, primarily Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Previous experience using MRP software systems.
  • Familiar with construction drawings.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Efficient typing/data entry skills, with an emphasis on accuracy.
  • Ability to compile information and make decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Experienced in multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Enrollment in SCMP is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of one year business experience in supplier management, purchasing or related field.
  • Experience placing Purchase Orders, expediting and supplier management.
  • Familiarity with best purchasing practices, market research and data analysis.
  • Exposure to sourcing products internationally.

Work will be performed in the office in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
