Job Title: Data Governance Lead
Location: Vancouver, BC (On-Site)
Reports To: Director of Business Intelligence
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Data Governance Lead to establish and drive our data governance initiatives from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to shape the data governance function, creating frameworks, policies, and processes that will have a lasting impact across the organization. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with deep expertise in data governance, exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to navigate and lead change within a global organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Implement Data Governance Frameworks: Develop and operationalize data governance strategies, policies, and standards from scratch to ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance across the enterprise.
- Policy Creation & Management: Create clear, actionable data policies and procedures that align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with global business and technology stakeholders to promote data governance best practices and ensure alignment across regions and functions.
- Change Management & Adoption: Lead change management initiatives to foster a data-driven culture, including training, communication, and adoption of governance policies.
- Data Stewardship: Establish and support a network of data stewards and business data owners, providing guidance and frameworks to enable effective data management.
- Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Ensure data governance practices support compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and mitigate data-related risks.
- Measurement & Reporting: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the data governance program and report progress to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data governance, or data management, with significant experience with the design and implementation of data governance frameworks and resolving data quality and compliance challenges
- Demonstrable experience in leading/influencing teams comprising Data Owners, Data Stewards, Solution Architects, and SME's
- Proven experience establishing and leading data governance programs, ideally in a global and complex organization.
- Demonstrated ability to build policies, processes, and frameworks from scratch
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with change management and driving cultural shifts toward data ownership and accountability.
- Familiarity with data governance tools is a plus.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Management, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Certifications in Data Management and Data Governance would be considered an asset
