About the opportunity:
The incumbent ensures all product documentation specific to raw materials, packaging, product specifications and formulations are translated in both French and English. Review specifications to ensure compliance with all applicable Food & Labeling Regulations.
The attributes we are looking for:
- Review food product specifications to ensure compliance with CFIA guides and other applicable regulatory requirements
- Review specifications and packaging labels for accuracy with focus on those products received with French original documentation requiring translation (both internal and imported/co-manufactured)
- Complete translations of Lactalis technical documentation received in English to French or French to English as required.
- Translate international imports documentation (French only) to develop English packaging and product specifications.
- Maintain product information in both French and English that is contained in databases, ensuring full traceability of supporting documentation for product labels and specifications.
- Support audit and review processes for product specifications. Manage sample submissions to internal and external laboratories as required and validate received results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory alignment throughout the product lifecycle.
- Provide documents per internal and external requests including providing specialized documentation related to ingredient source, Country of Origin, GMO, etc.
- Support special projects including improvements of specification, artwork, and raw material databases as well as changes to nutrition and product labelling.
- Communicate with contacts internally (R&D, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Sales) and externally (customers, International Import designates) to ensure product documentation is translated for all new product launches and product renovations.
- Advise internal customers (marketing, sales, quality assurance, manufacturing) on translation requirements to complete projects. Advice is based on applicable regulations, precedence, or best practices.
- Responsible to ensure Quality is fundamental in execution of all work activities and work in compliance to Lactalis Quality Systems (e.g. QSL).
What you will bring:
- Must be fluent in French and English
- University degree or College diploma in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Microbiology or related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience performing translations is required. Experience in dairy or the food industry is preferred.
- Being a Certified Translator (French/English) is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to clearly articulate, and ability to present and communicate position in both written and oral forms in both English and French.
- Must have working knowledge of Federal and Provincial Regulations related to food labelling with strong understanding of translation standards as they relate to food products.
- Must have working knowledge of applicable Canadian Regulations to review specifications and labels for accuracy and compliance to appropriate regulations.
- Ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to work cross functionally with members of R&D, Quality Assurance, sales, and Marketing.
- General understanding of nutrition labelling is a strong asset.
- Good judgment; high degree of integrity. Ability to apply knowledge and strategic thinking.
- Ability to work in unstructured environments and to multi-task, with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to operate standard office applications such as Microsoft Office and SAP.
