Position Overview
The primary objective of the Underwriting Team at the Facility Association is to oversee Risk Sharing Pool (RSP) Eligibility criteria, as well as administer the Facility Association Residual Market (FARM), by maintaining a thorough understanding of the Canadian Insurance Market to develop avenues for consumers to successfully (re)enter the voluntary market.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Underwriting Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise to manage and execute rate filings, support the modernization of Facility Association Residual Market (FARM) initiatives, and oversee Risk Sharing Pool (RSP) eligibility for Private Passenger Vehicles. You will play a critical role in producing and interpreting reports, monitoring operational performance, and contributing to product development within our organization.
This is a full-time permanent position. It requires work from the office a minimum of 2 days per month.
Key Responsibilities:
Rate Filing Management and Execution:
- Collaborate with Pricing to analyze trends and determine rating actions.
- Prepare management recommendations for Rates and Rules Committee meetings.
- Compile President-level submissions for rate filing approvals.
- Draft and review rate filing documentation, including cover letters, rate profiles, and algorithm updates.
- Respond to regulator inquiries as needed.
- Assist servicing carrier operations with compliance-related packages.
- Track and ensure adherence to mandatory filing deadlines.
Product Development (Rating Rules):
- Work with servicing carriers and internal departments to develop proposed rule changes.
- Harmonize proposed rules across jurisdictions and lines of business.
- Present recommendations to the Rates and Rules Committee and FA Governance and HR Committee.
- Update manuals with approved rules.
Report Preparation and Analysis:
- Compile and review operational reports, including Binder Control Reports and FARM Monthly Reporting.
- Provide detailed analysis of trends and risk exposures affecting FARM placements and RSP utilization.
- Monitor service standards and collaborate with servicing carriers to implement action plans.
- Investigate emerging issues, including underwriting policies for various vehicle classes.
Qualifications:
- Education: College Diploma in Business Administration, Insurance Management or related field, holder of the Chartered Insurance Professional designation preferred.
- Experience: minimum 5 years Automobile Underwriting Experience (Personal and Commercial), prior experience working with regulatory rate and rule filing preferred.
- Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of legislative and regulator requirements in jurisdictions in which FA operates.
- Communication:Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to engage diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Effective problem-solving skills with the demonstrated ability to devise creative solutions.
- Decision Making: This role requires analytical, research and critical thinking skills to adapt to diverse duties involving different processes. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to summarize information, identify variables and draw conclusions for a broad range of situations.
- Organization and Planning: Demonstrated ability to plan and organize multiple activities, adapting as needed.
- Accountability: Demonstrated ability to work involves adherence to established guidelines and procedures, with occasional checks for accuracy, quality, and compliance.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with the MS Office suite of products.
