Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Laser Systems and Optical Experimentation

A leading applied research organisation dedicated to advancing quantum and photonic technologies is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the development of cutting-edge laser systems in a highly collaborative research environment.

Position Overview

We are seeking a driven and capable Postdoctoral Research Fellow with hands-on experience in the design, characterisation, and operation of high-power laser systems (Class 3 and Class 4) and optical laboratory experimentation. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing optical and quantum technologies from concept to practical application.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-power laser systems for advanced scientific applications
• Set up and optimise optical table experiments, including alignment and diagnostics
• Carry out experimental investigations, collect data, and analyse results
• Collaborate closely with a team of physicists and engineers
• Document research and contribute to high-quality publications and reports

Essential Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience with:
• Class 3 or Class 4 laser system design and characterisation
• Setting up and conducting experiments on optical tables
• Experimental data acquisition and analysis
• Strong publication record in relevant scientific fields
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
