About the Opportunity:
We are hiring a hands-on and experienced Kitchen Manager on behalf of our client, a busy and fast-paced restaurant in Toronto. This role is ideal for someone who combines culinary expertise with strong leadership and operational skills. The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for overseeing all kitchen activities, ensuring high standards of food quality, staff performance, and overall kitchen efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Kitchen Operations
- Supervise all kitchen activities and staff during prep and service hours
- Ensure consistent food preparation, presentation, and quality
- Monitor food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards at all times
Team Leadership
- Hire, train, and supervise kitchen staff
- Create work schedules and manage labor costs
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to the team
Inventory & Cost Control
- Order, receive, and manage inventory to reduce waste and control food costs
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of supplies
- Monitor and report on food usage, stock levels, and wastage
Menu Execution & Standards
- Work with ownership/management on menu planning and updates
- Ensure recipe adherence and timely preparation of menu items
- Manage daily prep lists and ensure readiness for service
Health & Safety Compliance
- Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations
- Conduct regular kitchen inspections and maintain required documentation
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with morning, day, and evening availability
- Must be available on weekends and holidays as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training an asset
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role in a commercial kitchen
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Excellent leadership and time management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities
- English proficiency with CLB 6 or higher
