Cardinal Energy Ltd. is seeking an experienced land negotiator that will be responsible for coordinating the acquisition and disposition of mineral rights in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The successful candidate will be able to resolve all mineral land related issues according to the applicable regulatory, legislative and company policies.

The role will be based at our head office in Calgary, Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy with Asset Teams respecting mineral deal-making that supports and is accretive to the formation and execution of development plans, including but not limited to asset exchanges, acquisitions, dispositions, pooling agreements, joint operating and farmout agreements.
  • Collaborates with Mineral Land, Surface Land, Joint Ventures, Accounting, Marketing and legal council to ensure that all contractual obligations are met.
  • Collaborate with Asset Teams and Mineral Land respecting the continuation and maintenance of Crown and Freehold mineral rights.
  • Develop and manages freehold acquisition and leasing strategies that support Asset Team development plans.
  • Develop posting and bid strategies for Crown sales.
  • Develop strong business relationships with external stakeholders including regulatory bodies, industry associations and industry counterparts.
  • Monitor obligations/commitment dates/expiry dates of mineral rights and land agreements.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years experience in all facets of mineral land and land negotiations.
  • Bachelor of Commerce with a concentration in Petroleum Land Management or comparable combination of education and experience.
  • Expert understanding of Operating Procedures, Land Agreements, Purchase and Sale Agreements, Title Documentation, Mineral Tenure and Spacing Unit Regulations.
  • Member of CALEP with an extensive industry network.

Required Skills

  • Experience working in the Alberta and Saskatchewan jurisdictions, along with freehold and heavy oil experience in Saskatchewan.
  • Proficient in CS Land, Microsoft Word, Excel, ETS, StackDX, Accumap and/or Petro Ninja.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of the regulations in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
  • Previous supervisory experience as there is potential for the role to evolve into a management position.
