We're searching for a detail-oriented Part-Time Payroll Specialist who thrives on accuracy and enjoys solving complex payroll challenges in a dynamic mining environment. Reporting directly to our Manager Human Resources, you'll become an essential member of our team who can help us maintain our reputation for technical excellence, experience and reliability while supporting our multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
For HDI and our associated clients:
- Process semi-monthly payroll cycles for both salaried and day rate/flexible employees
- Calculate and reconcile government deductions and remittances including WCB, EHT, and other statutory requirements
- Ensure compliance with British Columbia (and when required other provincial) payroll regulations
- Serve as the main point of contact for employee payroll inquiries
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Liaise with finance/accounting and/or management regarding payroll queries
- Prepare/submit statutory remittances and reports, maintain CRA online accounts
- Support year-end processes including T4 preparation
- Handle cross-border payroll responsibilities when required
- Collaborate with HR on special projects and process improvements
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of hands-on payroll processing experience, specifically within British Columbia
- Experience with both salaried and day rate/flexible employee payroll
- Knowledge of employment standards and payroll legislation
- Proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Office
- Experience with cross-border payroll an asset
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to confidentiality and data security
- Canadian Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification preferred
Potential Full-Time Opportunity
For candidates with appropriate experience, there is potential to expand this role to full-time with additional responsibilities:
- Managing relationships with external tax advisors, auditors and tax agencies regarding Canadian tax compliance
- Preparing Canadian corporate tax returns and related working paper files
- Overseeing other Canadian compliance requirements (T4, T4A, T5, etc.)
- Preparing quarterly and annual tax provisions for Hunter Dickinson affiliated companies
- Assisting the risk and compliance team with documenting and testing tax internal controls
- Conducting special taxation projects, some requiring in-house tax research
