New Value Solutions, a national IT consulting firm, is seeking a Technical Design Lead to support the Claims and Rehabilitation Transformation Program. This role will be responsible for defining the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals, overseeing the design and architecture of technical solutions, and managing both the technical design team and the quality of deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that the technical approach aligns with the organization's goals and supports the overall business strategy.
  • Defining and communicating the technical design approach to gain consensus and support from the Program leadership and key Innovation, Technology, and Analytics personnel.
  • Leading the creation of a technical roadmap, including decisions on solutions, related technologies, and tools.
  • Applying structured Solution Envisioning practices to guide problem discovery, situation assessment, and solution planning-culminating in an agreed solution concept, business case, and realization roadmap that bridges Business and IT.
  • Overseeing the design and architecture of technical solutions that align with business needs, ensuring scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that new solutions integrate smoothly with existing systems, data architectures, and business processes, including defining integration specifications where necessary.
  • Documenting and presenting solution options and recommendations for key decisions, supported by relevant analysis and artifacts.
  • Leading and ensuring technical teams are clear on the technical direction, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Acting as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on progress and expectations.
  • Resolving technical conflicts and challenges that arise within the team or across cross-functional groups.
  • Managing backlogs of technical design deliverables, defining objectives for upcoming agile iterations, and ensuring the technical team meets delivery milestones.
  • Identifying potential technical risks early in the process and proactively managing them.
  • Ensuring the team follows software development best practices to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Engaging regularly with business stakeholders to understand requirements, communicate technical constraints, and ensure alignment between the technology roadmap and business needs.
  • Communicating the progress of technical work to stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical audiences.
  • Ensuring adherence to technical standards, code quality expectations, and development best practices to maintain consistency and reduce technical debt.
  • Ensuring that technical solutions meet all required compliance and security standards.
  • Balancing innovation with sustainable practices and addressing technical debt and legacy issues in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • 15+ years of IT experience, gained through full-time roles in areas such as software development, systems engineering, or IT consulting.
  • 6+ years of experience in a role responsible for the design of large-scale enterprise software systems and/or the definition of business application portfolios. Preferably in the claims domain of insurance industry.
  • 5+ years of experience engaging with senior IT leaders and business executives.
  • Proven working experience as a technical lead in business transformation programs, preferably in the claims domain of insurance industry, with experience of designing and delivering enterprise systems.
  • A deep understanding of software architecture, system design, and relevant technologies (cloud, APIs, microservices, etc.).
  • Proven experience applying TOGAF architecture framework to define and communicate technical design strategies that align with business goals and ensure scalable, secure, and integrated solutions. (certification preferred)
  • Ability to lead a team, with a history of leading teams to success.
  • Practical knowledge of Agile, Scrum, or Kanban methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to overcome technical hurdles and make technology-related decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage expectations and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including non-technical.
  • Understanding of how technology drives business value and being able to align technical decisions with business goals.

The hourly rate range for this position is $85 - $115, with the final rate based on consultant experience and fit for the role.
