About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the Surveyor is responsible for conducting surveys and measurements to accurately map and assess mine site. Primary role is to provide accurate data and information to support mining operations and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. The Surveyor will foster a health and safety culture of Zero Harm while ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations. This position works 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, fly in & out.
Responsibilities
- Conduct surveys. Utilizing specialized surveying equipment and techniques, measures and maps various aspects of the mining site, including underground and surface areas. This involves collecting data on topography, boundaries, geological features, and infrastructures.
- Create and update mine maps: Create detailed maps and plans of the mining site, including underground workings, tunnels, shafts, and surface areas. They update these maps regularly to reflect any changes or developments in the mine.
- Monitor and manage mine boundaries: Ensure that the mining activities stay within the designated boundaries and comply with legal and environmental regulations. They may also assist in resolving boundary disputes or issues.
- Provide data for mine planning. Participate in safety inspections to identify potential risks or hazards in the mining environment. They may assess stability, ventilation, and other safety aspects to ensure a safe working environment for miners.

- Assist in resource estimation: Surveyor may contribute to resource estimation by providing accurate data on the quantity and quality of mineral deposits. This information is crucial for determining the economic viability of mining operations.
- Manage surveying equipment: Responsible for maintaining and calibrating surveying instruments and equipment. Ensure that the equipment is in good working condition and conduct regular checks for accuracy.
- Document and reporting: Maintain accurate records of survey data, measurements, and reports. Communicate findings and updates to relevant stakeholders, including mine management, engineers, and regulatory authorities.
- Keeps updated with industry best practices and new technologies to improve overall safety and efficiency of the operation.
- Upholds and follows safety policies, procedures, regulations, hazard identification, and promotes safety awareness through day-to-day attitudes and actions.
- Utilizes safeguards, safety appliances and personal protective equipment or devices.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and equipment used in mining operations; total stations, GPS, and laser scanners.
- Mining industry knowledge: Familiarity with mining operations, processes, and safety regulations is essential. Understanding the specific challenges and requirements of surveying in a mining environment
- Computer proficiency with surveying software, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, and data management systems. Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can also be beneficial.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver's licence or equivalent.
- A combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.

- Ability to work in a remote location and adapt to site-based work schedules.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
- $80,000 - $110,000 per annum
- Extended Medical Health/Dental/Vision 100% employer contributed
