The Manager of Building Services, reporting to the Director of Development Services, is responsible for managing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating building services activities to ensure timely delivery for the City. This role involves managing daily departmental activities, including application and enforcement of various regulations, customer service functions, and processing building permit applications. The manager collaborates with other governments and major developers on building inspection matters, recruits and directs staff, undertakes major studies, develops strategies, and prepares and controls the department's annual operating and capital budgets. Additionally, the manager prepares and evaluates tenders, quotations, proposal calls, and awards in accordance with the City's Purchasing Policy, ensuring safety procedures and standards are followed.
The ideal candidate for this role should possess a degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline, and/or a red seal trade certification. They should be a Certified Level 3 Building Official under BOABC or equivalent, with a minimum of eight years of progressive, related experience, including four years in a supervisory or management level. The candidate should have an excellent management track record, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills, team-building abilities, strategic operational and financial planning, and problem-solving skills are essential. The candidate should also have proven written and oral communication skills, the ability to foster effective relationships, and a Class 5 driver's license.
