About the role:

As a Cinematic Artist at Altar Creative, you'll be instrumental in fusing art and technology, using your skills to push the craft of trailer making. Your role will be key in developing and deploying advanced technologies and processes, enabling our team of creators to bring to life exceptional creative visions across our game trailers and other video content.

We are actively seeking an individual with a discerning eye for artistic excellence and a comprehensive grasp of game engines and real-time productions. In the role of a Cinematic Artist, you'll be the link between creative vision and execution, using your cinematic eye and technical knowledge to facilitate solutions between the creative leadership and our clients.

We are looking for talented and driven individuals with demonstrable skills in producing cinematics, premium interactive products and video content - Whether it be in games, advertising, or similar mediums. By becoming a part of our team, you'll be joining one of the most interesting and emerging sectors of the games industry, and we are looking for ambitious candidates who are looking to push boundaries.

This is a full-time on site job position located in Montreal, Canada.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience in game development or real-time rendering is a must.
  • A candidate with a strong and assured vision, and the technical know-how to bring these visions to life.
  • A technically-minded artist with deep understanding of the creation and integration of 3D models and assets.
  • Extensive experience in Unreal Engine or similar game engines.
  • A quality-focused and critical individual with the ability to communicate, and receive, feedback effectively.
  • A natural collaborator who thrives in a team-based environment, whether working alongside artists, producers, or clients.
  • Self-motivation and self-sufficiency.
  • A candidate who is passionate about gaming culture and its genres-who not only enjoys games, but is knowledgeable about what makes them fun.
  • A solid grasp of cinematic language-camera movement, composition, pacing, and editing-to create emotionally resonant and visually compelling scenes.
  • An understanding of film storytelling principles and how they translate to trailers and in-engine cinematics.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate closely with creative directors, producers, capture artists, and editors to bring in-game assets to life in trailers, teasers, and promotional content.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of real-time workflows that support both visual fidelity and agile production timelines.
  • Craft and polish cinematic sequences using game engines (Unreal, Unity) and tools like Sequencer and Timeline.
  • Work with dev builds and in-engine tools to set up scenes, cameras, lighting, and animations to achieve cinematic storytelling.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide hands-on engine support to capture artists and other team members to ensure a smooth and visually compelling output.
  • Share ideas and pitch cinematic approaches or concepts to leadership, and help iterate on direction throughout the production cycle.
  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies, engine features, and cinematic tools that can push the boundaries of real-time storytelling.

Additional expectations:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in video game production, or similar.
  • Proficiency with C# and/or Unreal Blueprints.
  • Expertise with the most popular DCC / 3d creation software like 3dsMax, Maya, Blender, etc.
  • Ability to deliver within deadlines and production timelines.
