Position Summary:

The Senior Manager, Operations will lead and oversee all operational activities across our Burnaby manufacturing site, including Assembly, Sheet Metal Fabrication, Warehouse and Inventory, Quality, Industrial Process Engineering, Production Planning, and Facilities Maintenance.

This key leadership role will drive operational excellence by ensuring efficient production processes, high-quality output, strong safety performance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with company objectives. The Senior Manager will lead a team of team leads, managers, and support staff, champion cross-functional collaboration, and play a critical role in shaping the future of our manufacturing operations.

Location: Burnaby, BC

Reporting to: Director, Operations and Engineering

Essential Functions:

  • Provide overall leadership for manufacturing operations, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee engagement targets are met.
  • Directly oversee Assembly, Warehouse, Inventory, Sheet Metal Fabrication, Quality, Industrial Process Engineering, Production Planning, and Facilities Maintenance teams.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that align with organizational goals and drive continuous improvement in efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
  • Comply and track KPIs for operational performance, including throughput, on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, scrap reduction, and labour utilization.
  • Lead operational planning activities, including production scheduling, capacity planning, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee department-level budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, company safety policies, and proactive risk mitigation practices.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Product Management teams to support New Product Introductions (NPI) and product lifecycle changes.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and other continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes and reduce waste.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality management systems and processes.
  • Lead talent management efforts, including coaching, developing, and succession planning for operational staff.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to enhance communication, collaboration, and problem-solving across the organization.
  • Manage facility maintenance programs to ensure optimal operation of the manufacturing site.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical/business field.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification (preferred).
  • Formal leadership development training (asset).

Work Experience

  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership or multi-department management role.
  • Strong experience overseeing multidisciplinary teams in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume manufacturing environment (e.g., HVAC, appliances, industrial equipment).
  • Proven success in driving operational improvements, cost reductions, and quality enhancements.
  • Practical experience building and sustaining a lean culture is required.
  • Practical experience in an ISO 9001 facility is an asset.
  • Experience managing operational budgeting and capital planning processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing best practices, including production planning, inventory management, fabrication, assembly operations, and quality systems.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (Oracle or similar preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for data analysis and planning).
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen to manage budgets and operational KPIs.
  • Exceptional leadership, team building, and talent development skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to influence across levels of the organization and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of integrity, accountability, and drive for results.

Compensation Package:

  • $156,124 - $183,276 CAD annual base pay
