We currently have an opportunity for a Legal Counsel in our Legal Department in the Toronto office. This is a twenty-four-month contract position.

Duties
This position will primarily be accountable for providing legal advice and drafting and negotiating agreements in commercial real estate and leasing. The lawyer will partner with the McDonald's Canadian Asset Management team and other internal units to manage the real property portfolio nationwide. There may also be opportunities to support the Restaurant Development team in opening new restaurants. This role offers a chance to hone your skills, learn new areas, and work closely with legal and business teams.
Principal responsibilities include:
- Supporting business teams with drafting and negotiating commercial leases and licenses.
- Advising on title, off-title, zoning, construction, and due diligence matters.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements within the Legal team and across the business.
- Building precedent and template documents, and augmenting legal resources.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A legal degree (LLB or JD) and be a member in good standing of a provincial or territorial law society in Canada.
- 4-7 years of commercial real estate legal experience.
- Prior in-house legal experience from a major corporation is an asset.
- Outstanding analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills, with the ability to learn quickly and apply skills broadly.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- A strong work ethic, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
