Siksika Nation has an opportunity for a Geotechnical Civil Engineer to join their Engineering Services team to successfully deliver projects. The Geotechnical engineer will work with SNES work in its Calgary offices and on-site, contributing to infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, and water systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with our team of engineers, project managers, and Siksika leaders to ensure designs meet community needs and sustainability goals. Their challenges include coordination with stakeholders, and compliance with design requirements, highlighting their vital role in Siksika's infrastructure development.
The Role:
This Geotechnical Civil Engineer position within our Technical Engineering provides an opportunity to contribute to both the development of engineering technical standards and providing crucial project support. Then Senior Geotechnical Civil Engineer, Technical Services will be responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining Geotechnical and Civil engineering standards, while also providing technical expertise, design, and design analysis, and project management assistance. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, leadership, and strategic thinking, supporting the Technical Services
Department's operations and contributing to the achievement of Siksika Engineering's strategic goals.
Collaboration is key in this role, as the Senior Geotechnical Civil Engineer will work closely with architects, engineers, and other professionals across multiple disciplines. A proven track record of successful project execution, showcasing the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality, is essential for success in this position.
Reports to Technical Manager, Siksika Engineering Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the Engineering Technical Management in the design, development and continuous improvement of Technical and Engineering and Project Teams.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure technical documents meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements. Review and provide advice on engineering plans and designs. When required perform checks on Geotechnical Civil engineers' designs.
Engineering Process & Policy:
- Develop, maintain, evaluate and improve Geotechnical Civil engineering processes, policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
Management Support:
- Provide advice to management and contribute to the development and implementation of the engineering technical services department
Safety Culture - Actively support a strong safety culture.
Technical and Project Expertise:
- Create clear and concise technical and project documents, providing expert technical knowledge.
Technical Support & Application: Provide technical support to the engineering team
Technical Standards Management:
- Create, update, and enforce Geotechnical Civil engineering technical standards.
- Prepare design/technical specifications for engineering project team in applying codes and standards to design and analysis.
Technical Documentation & Analysis:
- Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
- Estimate material and production costs for designs.
- Prepare complete documentation packages, including design specifications, material lists, and technical reports.
- Verify drawings are correct to specifications, codes, and other regulations.
Collaboration & Supervision:
- Approve drawings
- Collaborate with engineering team, architects, project managers, and other team members to review and refine designs.
- Collaborate with the design team to review drawings and designs.
- Potentially direct the work of junior designers/drafters, providing guidance and instruction.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team including Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural & Architectural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls and Piping.
Compliance & Quality:
- Assure that work complies with the accuracy level and time constraints required for the assignment.
- Ensure designs comply with company regulations, quality standards, and relevant building codes.
- Setting up drawing formats and configuration files to meet company requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Software Proficiency:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant CAD software, including 3D modeling tools (e.g., SketchUp).
Design & Analysis:
- Strong understanding of Geotechnical and Civil engineering design principles.
- Solid math and analytical skills.
Standards & Regulations:
- Experience in the development and implementation of engineering standards and procedures for residential, commercial, and municipal projects.
- Understanding of and application of relevant codes and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant codes codes and regulations.
Construction Knowledge:
- Excellent knowledge of construction materials and methods.
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits.

Education and Experience:
- BSc degree in Civil Engineering, APPEGA Membership or Eligible for membership
- Minimum of Five years of relevant work experience in Geotechnical Civil in residential commercial and municipal design, analysis, and project execution
Professional Designation/Certification/Licenses:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License required.
- Five years Driver's Abstract required.
- LEED Certification, ACP and/or CSWP
Remuneration & Benefits:
$75,000.00 to $100,000.00 per year
3 weeks holidays, paid xmas break, 15 Sick Days, 4 Personal days, 3 cultural days
