Reporting to the Director, Operations, the Senior Estimator is responsible for providing overall technical expertise and administrative support to construction projects.

Primary Scope of Role

  • Follow up on timelines for submitted bids and update the estimating system with results.
  • Coordinate the transfer of successful projects, subcontractor contracts and purchase orders to contract administrator and accountant.
  • Perform pre-job planning to include all senior role players and attend all site meetings
  • Maintain and build customer relations.
  • Mentor project coordinators and junior level staff to facilitate their development.
  • Assign roles and responsibilities for junior level staff.

Specific Duties

  • Follow-up on bidding opportunities identified through advertisements, customers, RFQ's, etc.
  • Review job specifications in detail (instructions to bidders, general conditions, and special provisions) as well as specifications on project drawings, geotechnical reports, hydrogeological reports, etc.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs from Contract Drawings, field measurements, etc. to be used for the preparation of cost estimates.
  • Prepare detail job cost estimates and identify production time, materials and labour costs including subcontractors costs and review overhead costs and mark-ups with the Director - Operations, Manager - Operations, Quality & Production, and Senior Estimator.
  • Help aid in the maintenance and updating of the cost databases in estimating software.
  • Compile various cost reports and resolve cost issues.
  • Oversee and coordinate the transfer of successful projects, subcontractor contracts and purchase orders to the Project Manager and Administrative Staff.
  • Follow up on timelines for submitted bids and update the estimating system with results
  • Track substantial completion of projects and ensure reconciliation of all subcontract agreements.
  • Maintain and build customer relations.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or management to support the overall objectives of the company.

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of 10+ years' progressive experience in road construction and construction projects.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices
  • Experience in managing all aspects of road building, asphalt, and construction projects.
  • Experience managing ICI projects is an asset.
  • Results-driven with an ability to deliver success in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outcome focused, critical thinker with the ability to analyze and visualize to ensure continuous improvement across our business.
  • Ability to connect and interact with people to seek different perspectives.
