GRT's Resource Regeneration Facility receives trucks & barges of unwanted soil, then washes and sorts the soil to produce clean rock products for reuse. As GRT's Project Scientist/Engineer, you will develop and demonstrate a high level of understanding for GRT's operational processes. You'll use this expertise-along with your background in applied science or engineering-to support the team with data collection and analysis, project management and technical improvements. Your time will be shared between working "hands-on" with GRT's management and operations staff to improve facility performance-including planning and implementing trials-and managing special soil movement projects that require extra planning and coordination.
This is an intermediate level role with no direct reports; success in this position requires an ability to communicate and work with ease across/among teams (office staff and plant crew). The salary range is $70,000-$100,000 per year, based on experience.
The position can be a hybrid of remote and onsite workdays each week, or fully onsite at our Nanaimo plant.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with colleagues to support project management at the facility (construction, optimization, special projects, cost savings, etc.)
- Organize logistics associated with special projects, such as: receiving incoming barges and sending outgoing aggregate products (barges, tugs, barge ramps, trucks, equipment, subcontractors, scheduling, billing, final reports, etc.)
- Work with Senior Scientist and Operations team to identify, assess and implement process improvements and data collection programs.
- Review operational, financial, and analytical data to recognize trends.
- Prepare or commission plans and drawings prior to making site changes, obtain approvals as required, complete interim and final inspections of site changes.
Educational & Technical Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in applied science or engineering.
- Currently hold or be eligible to receive (within one year): P.Eng., P.Geo., or P.Ag. designation.
- Valid driver's license.
Requisite Experience
- 6-8 years working in mechanical systems and/or contaminated soil management.
The following experience would also be an asset:
- Experience working in an operational environment or technology role (especially using tools).
- Familiarity with BC environmental regulations.
- Experience maintaining databases and implementing new methods of data collection / data synthesis.
Physical Requirements
- Must complete deskwork for extended periods
- Some work at Plant is outside and in a wet/muddy environment; must be comfortable working outside, in soil, and in all weather conditions.
