THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Financial Planner to join a highly successful six-person team in our Vancouver office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The ideal candidate is a proactive people person with expertise in financial planning and tax strategies who thrives on building strong long-term relationships.

The team includes two seasoned Portfolio Managers, two experienced Associate Portfolio Managers, and two Investment Assistants, managing over $1 Billion in client assets. This role will also report to the Vice President, Financial Planning on practice management as it relates to financial planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct telephone and in-person client interviews to collect and analyze information relevant to their financial goals
  • Develop and review comprehensive financial projections tailored to client goals using leading software tools
  • Interpret projections for clients and Portfolio Managers to support decision-making
  • Support Portfolio Managers by addressing client queries related to tax strategies, estate planning, trusts, registered/non-registered accounts, pensions, and government benefits
  • Provide insights on financial, tax, retirement, and estate planning strategies
  • Identify tax minimization opportunities for clients while explaining complex concepts clearly
  • Stay informed about policy developments impacting financial strategies
  • Identify potential risks in client plans and propose insurance-based solutions (life/living benefits)

COMPETENCIES

  • Advising and Coaching - Able to guide others in delivering impactful coaching or advice to internal or external stakeholders, develop innovative strategies for addressing complex stakeholder challenges and goals, influence stakeholder decision-making and growth through expert knowledge and coaching techniques
  • Customer Relationship Management - Able to effectively manage and nurture a portfolio of client relationships, ensuring long-term satisfaction and retention, leverage CRM tools to analyze client data and deliver tailored, consistent service, identify trends and insights to anticipate client needs and drive relationship growth
  • Financial Planning - Able to develop financial planning solutions, strategies and/or frameworks which enhance the overall caliber of financial planning organizationally, mentor others in creating impactful financial plans, contribute to organizational standards for financial planning and goal alignment
  • Investment and Portfolio Management - Able to assist with basic investment tasks, research and support, assist with the proactive and effective management of client accounts and communication with clients, demonstrate awareness of fundamental investment principles and risk factors
  • Modeling and Forecasting - Able to contribute to organization-wide efforts in financial modeling and forecasting, mentor others in using advanced forecasting tools effectively, establish best practices and frameworks for consistent and accurate forecasting
  • Regulatory Knowledge - Able to interpret and apply complex regulations to organizational processes and practices, act as compliance lead for specific domains, projects or teams and recommend actions to mitigate regulatory or legal risk, evaluate and improve internal processes and practices to ensure ongoing legal and ethical compliance
  • Risk Assessment - Able to independently lead assessment of risk for a given strategy, portfolio, project, initiative or course of action, develop proactive risk assessment approaches and implement tailored risk mitigation strategies, evaluate the effectiveness of responses to identified risks and recommend improvements

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

•CFP designation with at least 5 years of post-designation experience required

•CA/CPA designation preferred

•Additional qualifications (e.g., TEP) or experience with trusts/estates are assets

•Expertise in retirement and estate planning with strong business acumen

•Analytical mindset with excellent decision-making skills

•Exceptional communication skills; confident in building positive client relationships

•Proven ability to exceed client expectations in a professional services environment

•In-depth knowledge of personal finance and taxation, including private corporations/trusts

•Experience with personal trusts across the full life cycle is an asset

This role has an expected salary of $100,000 - $110,000/year, plus the potential for bonuses.
