Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for a Senior Surface Land Analyst to join their team on a 1-year contract in Calgary.

This individual will play a key role in securing land access for infrastructure development, overseeing multiple land-related projects, and supporting cross-functional teams throughout project lifecycles.

The ideal candidate excels at balancing competing priorities, coordinating third-party resources, and providing strategic guidance from a surface land perspective. This role involves close collaboration with internal teams and external land brokers to ensure timely, efficient, and compliant execution of land acquisition and permitting activities.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Land Acquisition: Secure surface access and acquire necessary permits for pipeline and facility construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Due Diligence & Risk Mitigation: Conduct land assessments during project kick-offs to identify legal, environmental, and logistical risks related to pipeline routing and dig locations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interface and build strong working relationships with internal project teams (Regulatory, Environment, Supply Chain, Engineering, Construction) and other key stakeholders to enhance project support.
  • Coordination of External Resources: Effectively coordinate with third-party service providers, including land brokers.
  • Payment Processing: Receive and process payments for acquisitions, damage settlements, and temporary workspaces.
  • Third-Party Agreement Management: Review and process third-party agreements, including updating the land database and organizing related files and systems.
  • Document Preparation: Prepare and issue land agreements, third-party requests, notifications, and other documents necessary for acquiring land rights or addressing file deficiencies.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general land administration and compliance support, including field agent coordination, research, documentation, and recordkeeping.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Land Administration, Environmental Studies, Business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in surface land acquisition, preferably within the oil & gas or energy infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong understanding of Crown and Freehold land processes in Western Canada.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
