We're currently looking for an Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our team - someone who thrives in the field and the boardroom, who is confident managing projects, engaging with clients, and ensuring regulatory compliance in Alberta and British Columbia.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Intermediate Environmental Scientist at Synergy, you'll:
- Lead and support environmental projects related to upstream oil and gas, energy, infrastructure, and resource development.
- Plan and coordinate field logistics, assess environmental risks, and ensure compliance with provincial regulations.
- Conduct and contribute to baseline environmental studies including wetlands, watercourses, vegetation, timber, soils, and wildlife.
- Prepare technical deliverables such as Pre-Construction Assessments, Wetland & Watercourse Classification Reports, Scout Summaries, and Wildlife Summary Reports.
- Interface directly with clients to provide regulatory advice, project updates, and strategic solutions.
- Support remediation and reclamation activities, timber salvage calculations, and environmental monitoring.
- Fieldwork is required - including travel to remote project sites, often involving overnight stays and work in various environmental conditions.
- Ensure field programs align with Synergy's high standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and professionalism.
What We're Looking For
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Education & Credentials
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
- Active professional designation (P.Biol., P.Ag., or equivalent) required or eligible to apply.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental consulting.
- Strong understanding of provincial environmental regulations, permitting, and best practices (especially in BC and Alberta).
- Proven experience with field assessments, project coordination, and technical reporting.
- Excellent time management, client communication, and technical writing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work independently in dynamic project environments.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant data management tools.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean driving record; additional safety certifications considered an asset.
