Head of People and Culture

On behalf of our client, MacKenzie Art Gallery, we are looking for a Head of People and Culture to join their team. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, this position is responsible for leading all aspects of human resources operations, including employee engagement, staffing, talent management, and employee and labour relations. This role will also guide and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. The Head of People and Culture will play a strategic role in ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements, participating in collective bargaining processes, and providing recommendations on HR policies, processes, and organizational development.
As the Head of People and Culture, you will:
- Oversee onboarding processes to ensure new employees have a seamless transition, including access to necessary tools, systems, and information on benefits and payroll timelines.
- Manage payroll operations and time reporting, ensuring accuracy and efficiency while providing payroll-related support and guidance.
- Serve as a key resource for conflict resolution, offering coaching, mentorship, and support to employees and leadership.
- Support collective bargaining efforts and ensure adherence to the organization's Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives by embedding inclusive practices in recruitment, policy development, and workplace culture.
- Modernize HR operations by digitizing personnel files and streamlining documentation using digital platforms.
- Review and enhance HR policies to reflect evolving best practices and align with organizational goals.
- Facilitate employee engagement by conducting surveys, gathering feedback, and recommending initiatives to strengthen workplace culture.
- Foster accessibility and visibility by maintaining an approachable and supportive HR presence across the organization.
You and Your Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (a diploma will also be considered).
- A minimum of 5+ years of progressive HR or management experience, including talent management, employee engagement, and conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with collective bargaining processes and experience working within unionized environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and implement EDI initiatives that foster an inclusive workplace culture.
- Experience in reviewing, updating, and implementing HR policies that align with organizational goals and best practices.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and support employees and leadership while maintaining an approachable and visible presence.
- Experience driving organizational change, improving workplace culture, and implementing engagement initiatives based on employee feedback.
- CPHR designation is preferred but not mandatory.
- Proven experience managing payroll operations, with proficiency in platforms such as QuickBooks Online or similar systems is an asset.
