We are currently looking for a Linux System Administrator to join one of our major clients, an international bank based in Montreal.

Job Overview:

The Linux Infrastructure Specialist will provide expert-level support for the enterprise's Linux environment across the Americas region. The role encompasses full-stack Linux administration, proactive system monitoring, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and cross-functional collaboration on infrastructure projects. The engineer will also contribute to security, reliability, and compliance initiatives across the High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Support & Operations:

  • Deliver 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line support for RedHat, Ubuntu, and Debian servers.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of production systems, including 24/7/365 support when required.
  • Proactively monitor systems using enterprise-standard tools, collecting and analyzing performance data.

Architecture & Engineering:

  • Participate in systems architecture design and deployment across production, DR, test, and development environments.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging Linux technologies aligned with strategic business goals.
  • Build and maintain custom kernels and RPM packages as needed.

Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Work closely with application development teams to gather requirements and design appropriate Linux-based solutions.
  • Coordinate with IT production and infrastructure engineers to resolve complex cross-platform issues.
  • • Maintain up-to-date documentation on system architecture, configurations, and policies.

Compliance & Governance:

  • Identify infrastructure risks and contribute to mitigation planning.
  • Ensure deployed systems meet business continuity and disaster recovery standards.
  • Adhere to corporate IT standards and change management procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

  • 5-10 years of experience supporting Linux environments in financial services or equivalent industry.
  • Strong expertise in RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.x and 9.x; solid experience with Ubuntu and Debian.
  • Deep understanding of Linux kernel internals and performance optimization (low-latency tuning, kernel bypass, etc.).
  • Familiarity with system monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, sar, iostat, vmstat.
  • Scripting skills (Shell, Perl); automation experience using Ansible or Puppet.
  • Strong grasp of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP) and troubleshooting tools (tcpdump, snoop).
  • Knowledge of core Linux services (NIS, NFS, DNS, DHCP, Apache, LDAP, SSH, etc.).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies and managing enterprise hardware (Dell, HP).
  • Working knowledge of storage systems such as EMC SAN and NetApp appliances.

Additional Knowledge (Preferred):

  • Familiarity with middleware (WebSphere MQ), relational databases (Sybase, Oracle), and market data tools (Reuters RMDS).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic trading environment.
  • Fluent in English; French is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with 3 days on-site per week in Montreal.
