ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the primary role of the Operations Manager is to lead the procurement and planning elements in a demand driven supply model. Significant focus shall be placed on execution of the corporate strategic plan, including the facilitation of growth and expansion targets. The Operations Manager will be responsible for the creation and implementation of the company procurement philosophy, material readiness and use of Material Resource Planning (MRP). The Supply Chain Management responsibilities include: the direct management and planning of goods and materials for consumption or use by the company, creation of specific forecasts for items over a given time span, which shall be used for inventory management purposes, strategic ordering and vendor selection.
Alongside implementing a process model with inventory and operations, is mitigating risk and allowing for maximum production throughput. The goal is to solidify processes and have the team manage by exception, ideally with a low quantity of exceptions. This person supports the team in using Acumatica to its capabilities, primarily with regards to MRP and related items in inventory, sales orders, production orders, BOMs and purchase order accuracy.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Analyze forecast vs capacity for production scheduling as part of the S&OP model
- Estimate materials and labour required for global production on a scheduled frequency
- Oversee the development of production plans for Alberta, European and Taiwan Factories, in line with strategic initiatives, and business objectives, while considering constraints
- Be the liaison between factories in Taiwan, Europe and Alberta, and the Operations team, and work closely with factories to ensure production plans are met
- Coordinate and monitor the day to day activities for operations
- Oversee / support procurement practices with regards to strategic direction and follow up
- Oversee / support production planning schedule and ensure operations schedules are on track; if not, adjust to ensure all targets are met
- Ensure required inventory is available
- Review materials and plans to communicate future risks and utilize Acumatica for pushing MRP (monthly reporting)
- Transact or oversee the completion of approvals, transfers and other inventory related items
- Aid in resolving operational issues that arise; Deal with urgent items, create customized reports, delve into issues and ad hoc requests addressing exceptions when necessary
- Analyze root causes of operational malfunctions and provide resolutions in a timely manner
- Analyze operations and recommend process, structure and tool improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reporting, and improve cost-effectiveness
- Manage the staff that fall under the procurement and supply chain coordination team
- Lead all efforts as they relate to supply chain management, planning and execution systems
- Utilize data analysis, business intelligence, and reporting tools to forecast supply and material needs across the company
- Monitor developments within in-country and external markets to source materials and meet current/future supply chain needs
- Supervise the creation of materials requirements plans and forecasts, using established tools and methods
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators and metrics for supply chain planning and forecasting; enact changes based on findings
- Regularly report on supply chain performance to the senior management team, factory managers, and other stakeholders
- Seek and establish ways to further align the supply chain team's performance with the company's financial revenue goals
- Ensure the Operations team maintain strict control over inventory levels of materials in order to meet internal and external demand of product
- Manage an annual budget for supply chain functions across the company
- Identify discrepancies between inventory records and take action
- Conduct periodic spot-checks of inventory levels
- Manage a team of employees, including hiring, delegation, training, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions and termination
- Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- SCMP designation, or pursuit of SCMP designation preferred
- +5 years of direct work experience in a supply chain management or forecasting position
- Experience leading a team
- Ability to make timely educated decisions in line with the best interest, goals and objectives of the company
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage and determine priorities and follow up on items that require resolution
- Familiarity with ERP software (preferably Acumatica), and material requirements planning (MRP) software
- Demonstrated understanding of integrated supply chain and logistics concepts and theories
- Advanced procurement and supplier negotiation abilities
- Demonstrated experience with shipping, logistics, distribution, receipt management, vendor performance appraisal and vendor return systems
- Good financial and business awareness
- Able to make critical decisions quickly with sometimes limited or dynamically evolving information
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Working primarily from the worksite in Cochrane is required
- Flexible schedule requiring some morning and evening calls with entities in Europe and Taiwan
- Some travel may be required; possess a valid passport
