Legal Counsel/Litigator
One of southeastern Ontario's most innovative construction and development firms is seeking a
talented and ambitious lawyer to take on the role and responsibilities as its Legal Counsel/Litigator.
Based out of the historic and progressive city of Kingston, Ontario, our firm is on the leading
edge of design, property acquisition, and management processes and technological expertise.
Our growing team of flourishing professionals is the ideal setting for an established and
confident young professional with exceptional litigation acumen, with powerfully compelling
communication skills and a fierce desire for courtroom and boardroom success.
The role of Legal Counsel/Litigator will see the successful candidate operate independently as the
legal 'face' of the company, but will have access to the resources, wisdom, and experience of an
adjunct outside senior litigation specialist.
This position can be viewed as a proving ground for a lawyer seeking upward mobility in the
corporate legal world, with a generous compensation package and broad range of litigatory
experiences.
What We Seek:
- An individual with a comprehensive understanding of current commercial and corporate
law, but who also possesses business acumen and a sense of our firm's corporate
culture and goals.
- A boldly effective communicator, who can forcefully and successfully advocate for the
firm in the realms of negotiation, arbitration and litigation, but who can also effectively
distill complex legal issues and risks with fellow staff and senior management.
- Someone who is as comfortable in the boardroom as they are in a courtroom, before an
administrative body or tribunal.
- An incisive, quick, and prodigious legal mind, with uncanny focus and attention to the
smallest details; someone who as adept with case law as they are with transactional
documents, contracts and policy dossiers.
- Diligence, competitive fire, and the ability to build mutually beneficial relationships and
collaborate with in-house colleagues, outside counsel and other external parties.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Minimum of six years as a practicing lawyer, with at least five of those years involved in
corporate litigation, preferably within the construction/development industry.
- A potent understanding of the current legal environment, including all pertinent laws,
regulations, codes and guidelines.
- A demonstrated ability to draft, review and negotiate a wide array of legal documents,
including contracts, patents, agreements, memoranda and internal corporate policies.
- Sound judgement, an analytical mind and a high degree of professional ethics and
integrity.
- A keen sense of the importance of internal risk management and regulatory compliance.
- A demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships both within
and outside the firm which help advance the corporate goals and legal objectives of the
organization.
