Position Summary

Effective September 7th, 2021 all applicants must provide proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 (in the form of watermark receipts from the provincial portal) or provide written proof of a medical or religious reason for not being fully vaccinated as per the provincial direction as set out by the CMOH Directive 6.

The RN demonstrates professional development and clinical competency, utilizes the nursing process to assess plan, implement and evaluate patient care, addresses health educational needs for patients and families, and other health care providers, manages patient care assignments as well as other organizational tasks related to patient unit operations and acts in a clinical leadership role in the coordination of patient care for all assigned patients. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Medical Cardiology, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing evidence based, comprehensive, safe, effective and ethical nursing care to all patients in the Telemetry and Cardiology program.

Mandatory Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited college or university nursing program
Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Current nursing experience in a telemetry or cardiology setting
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Successful completion of a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia Interpretation course
Member of RNAO an asset

Mandatory Competencies

Demonstrated ability to work within a Total Patient Care Delivery system in which regulated health care professionals practice to their full scope adhering to the practice standards as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario
Proven critical thinking skills, creative problem solver with a solution focus and patient centric approach
Demonstrated ability to communicate and use effective interpersonal skills with colleagues and other members of the BCHS and external partners
Ability to multitask and set priorities in a rapidly changing environment
Demonstrated competence in patient assessment and care planning including but not limited to:
Completion of patient assessments, identification of patient needs, collaborative care planning with clients and families, implementation of nursing interventions, evaluation and documentation.
Ensuring a discharge plan is part of the individualized plan of care
Engaging patient and family in health teaching to achieved desired patient outcomes
Demonstrated competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation
Demonstrated knowledge of cardiac medications as well as general drug dosage calculation, continuous medication infusions administration, and patient monitoring for medication effects (i.e. non titrated vasoactive agents, platelet inhibitors, anti-arrhythmia agents, and insulin)
Demonstrated ability to recognize the signs and symptoms of cardiopulmonary emergencies and initiation of advanced interventions to stabilize a patient awaiting transfer to Critical Care or other facilities for urgent diagnostic procedures
Demonstrated competencies in phlebotomy, IV initiation as well as care for central lines
Demonstrated technical competencies in effective use of associated equipment including, but not limited to:
IV Infusion pumps, oxygen delivery systems, telemetry packs, glucometers, noninvasive blood pressure monitoring, specialty beds and overlay mattresses, closed chest tube drainage systems, and wound management systems
Reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts
Self directed individual with the ability to work both independently and in partnership with members of the interprofessional team
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development in nursing
Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Ability to be a coach, teacher and mentor to colleagues and students
Reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts
