Job Description

Based in the Ottawa region, the Health and Safety (H&S) Advisor will take direction from the Ontario Health and Safety Regional Manager and support AIM's Recycling and Kenny U-Pull facilities located in Ottawa & Gatineau Region, Cornwall, Pembroke, and near future - Kingston. Working in close collaboration with the Ontario H&S team as well as Site Managers of support areas the incumbent will be responsible to plan, organize, coordinate, monitor and review H&S activities pertaining to incidents, Safe Return to Work, Occupational Disease prevention for the support sites, as well as advise the health and safety committees.

Responsibilities:

Supporting the continual development of the H&S culture with all managers / employees
Advising, collaborating, and supporting managers regarding related strategical H&S initiatives, programs, procedures, and tools.
Performing regular inspections of workplace and work practices to ensure that safety rules and regulatory requirements are respected.
Performing occupational risk analysis and proposes preventive measures.
Conducting investigations and analyzes work related accidents with managers.
Supporting and auditing the adequacy and effectiveness of preventive measures
Participating and collaborating with regulatory and third parties for inspections or investigations, fire services, etc.)
Responding to employees and internal / external customers' occupational health and safety information requests
Planning and performing internal trainings sessions and monitor completion of mandatory H&S trainings.
Tracking and reporting on various H&S metrics and key indicators
Conducting and assisting with orientation sessions for new hires and participate in on-boarding activities as required.
Supporting the rollout of corporate/H&S programs, policies, and other initiatives.
Advising site Health and Safety Committee.
Performing other related tasks related to H&S duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

A minimum of college related H&S diploma or university certifications
Five years of experience in a similar position
Bilingual in French and English is required
Knowledge of Ontario and Quebec's laws and regulations pertaining to occupational H&S
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Has excellent planning, organization, and adaptation skills.
Impeccable attention to detail is an absolute must.
Possess technical skills acquired in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Demonstrate rigor, ability to maintain multiple files concurrently.
Has initiative, autonomy and a developed customer approach.
Strong MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) proficiency.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in high-pressure situations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to think outside the box.
Maintain discretion, confidentiality, and diplomacy in everything you do.
Hold a valid driver's license.
