Job Summary

The Director, Capital Efficiency is responsible for leading the optimization of strategic allocation and utilization of financial resources within the Network Operations, Mechanical, and Engineering organizations. The role leverages engineering expertise to identify and implement strategies that enhance capital efficiency, ensuring that investments in projects, technology, and infrastructure align with both financial goals and engineering best practices. The role requires a unique combination of financial acumen, continuous improvement, and engineering insight to drive efficient and effective capital deployment.

Main Responsibilities
Capital Optimization

Collaborate with executive leadership to develop capital strategies that align with Network objectives and overall organizational goals

Provide technical insights to bridge the gap between financial considerations and engineering requirements

Lead comprehensive cost-benefit and financial analysis for network projects, considering both short-term and long-term financial and technical impacts as well as evaluate the feasibility and efficiency of capital-intensive projects

Assess technical risks and opportunities associated with capital investments

Optimize the allocation of engineering resources, including personnel, materials, and technology, to maximize capital efficiency

Develop and implement strategies to prioritize and allocate resources based on project requirements and financial goals

Technology Optimization

Develop models to assess the return on investment for technology initiatives

Identify opportunities to optimize technology and Network processes to improve capital efficiency

Work closely with all Network teams to streamline workflows and enhance resource utilization

Continuous Improvement

Implement a culture of Continuous Improvement (CI), leveraging lean principles to enhance capital efficiency over time

Identify and champion innovative solutions to drive efficiency gains

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Management

Foster collaboration between Finance and Network teams to ensure alignment in capital efficiency initiatives

Act as a bridge between technical teams and organizational stakeholders, facilitating effective communication

Prepare assessments, strategies, position papers and statements

Persuade stakeholders and influence designs and decisions using negotiation, facilitation, and consensus-building skills

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires regular travel (50%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.).

Requirements
Experience

Engineering and Finance

Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in engineering or related roles

Between 8 to 10 years of experience successfully managing complex capital projects from initiation to completion

o Proven experience in engineering project management, financial analysis, and capital efficiency

o Experience leading cross-functional teams

o Experience developing business cases and analysis

Education/Certification/Designation

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field

Project Management (PMP), Scrum Alliance, ITIL or Six Sigma certifications or equivalent
