Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager, Facility Management is responsible for overseeing the conception, implementation of the overall project cycle across the CN network for Canada and the US.

The incumbent will provide oversite and ensures that the team prepares project plans and associate communication documents for all projects managed by the group from inception to completion thus ensuring proper completion in accordance with established standards, schedules, and budget parameters. He will identify vulnerabilities, obstacles and create innovative solutions to any problems that may occur and be responsible for the work and support project managers in the group.

This role also includes collaborating with various internal stakeholders across various CN Business Units, as well as external professionals, vendors, and contractors.

Main Responsibilities

Project Management

Lead the project managers to complete assigned projects, provide them with feedback, encouragement, advice and troubleshoot problems that come up over project duration while communicating project objectives to all team members involved.

Oversee and coordinate the development of individual project scopes, plans and designs are complete with budgetary information and resource needs.

Ensure that project documentation throughout all project phases is consistent for all project managers in the group.

Ensure that proper resource allocation to the projects, internal, vendors and suppliers as needed.

Guide and coach new internal or external resources on high impact projects.

Refine project budgets as needed to ensure timeliness and fiscal responsibility.

Ensure that communication with appropriate CN stakeholders is provided by project managers; project status reports, change orders, budget parameters, and milestones.

Contract and Quality Control Management

Manage vendor list and contracts for professionals, general contractors and suppliers.

Review requests for proposals on and assist in facilitating the hiring professionals and required services, participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, project design, and construction meetings.

Review contract plans and specifications for compliance and ensure they meet appropriate building codes and project requirements.

Ensure that vendors are in line with project schedules, construction compliance during the course of the projects managed by the group.

Ensure that stakeholders have been provided initially, during and after completion the scope of projects for facilities, as well as impact on CN's network for large scale projects.

Oversee overall projects budget management, project expenditures, payment of invoices, and adherence to contracts by all project managers.

Working Conditions

Standard working conditions in an office environment. The role requires minimal travel as needed to plan and assist with project managers, local resources, professionals, and contractors on various CN sites across the CN network.

Requirements

Experience

Project Management

Minimum 7 years

Industrial and/or commercial projects

Excellent communication, organization, time-management and leadership skills

Railway experience

Experience in a supervisory capacity

Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil engineering

Project Management Institute - Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) Certification

Any certification for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge

Extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of project management methodologies and tools

Knowledge of end-to-end project management, contracts management, budget management and preparation of change orders and drawings modification

Knowledge of construction methodology, technology, and costs

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applicable to the area of responsibility, spreadsheets and MS Project
