Job Summary

The Benefits Advisor is responsible for managing and administering plans and programs for CN's Benefits Team portfolio. The role supports Benefits Managers on financial aspects, design, governance, communication, management of external providers, coordination with unions and other functions.

Main Responsibilities
Group Benefits Plans

Collaborate with external vendors to manage administration of the Canadian benefit plans and annual enrollment

Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and support various CN stakeholders on benefits-related issues (Labour Relations (LR) and Human Resources (HR), Accounting, and Finance)

Support Benefit Manager on ongoing review of policies, programs, processes, and monitoring of market best-practices

Develop communications pertaining to Canadian benefits

Perform analyses and support projections for budgeting and funding of benefit programs

Support the evaluation of the cost impact of potential changes to support recommendations in union negotiations

Support Benefits Manager in the review and update contracts based on latest agreements or provisions, and collaborate with Legal and Supply Management teams for contract renewals and implementations

Support Benefits Manager in negotiations and renewal of annual group insurance with multiple insurers

Monitor and assess impact of legislative changes across all provinces and at the federal level

Special Projects

Perform analyses and prepare business cases and recommendations for special ad hoc projects such as a Request For Proposals (RFPs), potential acquisitions, and new programs

Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within CN in support of other functions

Disability Management (Canada)

Collaborate with insurer and administrator to ensure proper application of processes

Monitor and make recommendations to improve internal processes

Participate in management and coordination of Union Long Term Disability (LTD) Committee and Benefit Advisory Committee

Conditions

The role has hybrid working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines and handle pressure.

Requirements
Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in benefits administration

Experience with leading projects and managing internal and external stakeholders

Education/Certification/Designation

Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field

Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation considered an asset

Project Management

Technical Skills/Knowledge

Knowledge in group insurance programs

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Basic knowledge of Systems, Applications and Products (SAP)

Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)

Any experience for any of the above would be considered as an asset
