About the Opportunity

Responsible for accounting, financial and regulatory reporting to senior management (preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP (LDTI) and IFRS (including IFRS 17), Solvency II reporting, NAIC reporting and OSFI reporting for the different businesses within the Life Division)

Provide leadership and direct the financial reporting, accounting and analysis. Provide ongoing leadership, coaching, training, and development of the staff within the Finance area

Strengthen financial and organizational processes and controls through partnership and proactive interactions with other functional areas including Valuation, Risk Management and Capital, Administration and Claims

Oversee treasury, investments, cash management and forecasts

Responsible for expense management, which includes but is not limited to, expense allocation, accounts payable, budget process and cheque disbursements

Provide accounting expertise. Stay abreast of accounting pronouncements and lead the implementation of new accounting standards

Develop and maintain sound financial/accounting policies, procedures and systems

Integrate new deals/purchases into group reporting and determine appropriate accounting treatment for new deals

Oversee and review filing of corporate and indirect tax returns and tax reporting. Stay abreast of changes in corporate, indirect and other taxes that could affect the business and manage the associated third-party outsourcing services

Lead finance projects and financial aspects of various initiatives

Ensure integrity of financial statements through development, maintenance and management of effective internal controls. Oversee the management and maintenance and controls over finance system

Proactively identify, design, recommend and implement changes to financial and accounting processes, financial & tax reporting, systems and controls to improve the quality and effectiveness of financial reporting, forecast, budget and cost management

About You

The successful candidate will have over 5 years of experience at a managerial level in a Life Insurance and/or Reinsurance company or over 5 years of experience managing a Life Insurance/Reinsurance account at a major accounting firm; Accounting designation (CPA, CA) is required; Expert knowledge of finance, financial reporting, accounting standards, budgeting and forecasting; Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail; Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal, with the business acumen to present concepts and ideas to a wide audience; Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with all levels of the organization and gain credibility and trust; Ability to motivate, engage and coach team members.

Salary Range

$160,000 - $190,000/year
