Our Health, Safety & Environment group is looking to add a Safety Advisor to support our Telecommunications Operations, based in Winnipeg, MB.

Reporting to the Lead Safety Advisor, this position is responsible for promoting and reinforcing Valard's world-class safety culture. You will provide leadership, guidance, and hands-on mentoring to supervisors, foremen, and field workers to ensure the consistent application of HSE policies and procedures. In addition to safety, this role also supports Quality inspections and audits for telecommunications projects.

Please Note: this position will travel 25% of the time

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Champion and model Valard's safety culture in the field
  • Be a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors as per the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP)
  • Communicate, coach and assist field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are met
  • Participate and assist the supervisors and foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions
  • Participate in regular meetings with project safety teams to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events to ensure safety obligations are carried out as per client agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and Supervisors
  • Review tailboards daily to ensure that hazards are addressed, and a mitigation process is in place; provide feedback to workers to assist them for compliance
  • Perform observations, inspections, emergency preparedness drills, as per the current HS&E Manual and review and communicate the findings via safety meetings and postings
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly / monthly safety reports
  • Provide support to the supervisors and foreman to ensure that JSAs are developed and reviewed with the crews and available at the work site
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and company standards
  • Support the Quality department with inspections, reports and quality audits as needed

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 3 years' experience in a field safety position
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • National Construction Safety Officer Certification
  • Experience with Microsoft office applications
  • Proven experience performing audits and inspections
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (a record) for review
  • Successfully complete pre-employment checks as needed

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in a related field
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or other Health & Safety certification
  • Demonstrated familiarity with applicable provincial legislations
  • Root cause investigation experience
