The Opportunity:

The primary focus of this role will be driving profitable growth of our National Cyber Practice through marketing, underwriting, strategic development, and management of relevant products and services. This position requires specialized knowledge of Cyber underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques, including coverage issues, products, business development, and an ability to drive profitable growth in the marketplace.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the production of new business, including analysis of risk and negotiation of policy terms and conditions.
  • Prudent execution of the National Cyber Practice strategy.
  • Creates and executes on prospecting initiatives for the national Cyber practice.
  • Leads discussions with brokers, clients, and other key external partners on market conditions.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with clients & brokers specializing in Cyber placements.
  • Contributes a significant portion of the team's profitability (PTOI) and lead the team's new business growth.
  • Demonstrates a solution-oriented approach to underwriting including use of creative ideas to drive profitable business.
  • Proficiently understand policy wordings and endorsements including their impact on claims scenarios.
  • Demonstrates effective prioritization of workload and provides market-leading customer service while keeping management abreast of service-related issues and providing recommendations to address short-falls.
  • Ensures proper organization and documentation of each underwriting file.
  • Reviews and negotiates policy terms and conditions including manuscript wordings.
  • Responsible for achieving rate and retention targets on a renewal portfolio, including analysis of risk and negotiation of policy terms and conditions.
  • Performs related duties as requested to include, but not limited to, report preparation, presentations, and special projects to assist in ensuring the success of our National Cyber Practice.
  • Keeps management team abreast of key developments on broker/market intelligence.
  • Meets or exceeds audit requirements, compliance guidelines and underwriting best practices.
  • Works closely with other Liberty business units to leverage multi-line business opportunities.
  • Champions Liberty Values and Guidelines for Inclusion to cultivate a best in class culture.
  • Embraces and builds personal knowledge of Liberty's guidelines for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion and encourages their use within the team.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 years' experience underwriting Cyber products.
  • Post-secondary education including relevant Insurance designation(s)/education is considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures within the industry.
  • Proven ability to profitably grow a portfolio of Cyber business.
  • Self-starter with proven analytical skills and a proven track record in a solutions-oriented approach to underwriting that drives profitable growth.
  • Comfortable with critical thinking and a growth mindset, with thoughtful consideration of diverse perspectives during decision-making and respectful of differences.
  • Able to respectfully give and receive positive and constructive feedback.
  • Effective at managing internal and external meetings with professionalism and clarity while driving mutual accountability for results.
  • Effective at change management and adapting to new systems and processes.
  • Helps drive innovation through a growth mindset, viewing roadblocks as opportunities for growth and supporting new idea testing, training, and ongoing monitoring of changes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate in French is considered an asset.
  • Collaborates well across business units.
