MATRIX is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator based in Osoyoos, BC, Canada

The Health & Safety Coordinator will ensure that workers are following established policies and safety regulations. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations and will partner with the project manager to develop measures to assure personnel safety.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Orientate all site personnel to the Matrix Site Safety Program.
  • Review Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and communicate any deficiencies onsite.
  • Communicate Emergency Response Plans (ERP) to Site Personnel.
  • Communicate any onsite accidents/incidents to corporate safety designee.
  • Complete of accident/incident reporting forms as per company reporting requirements
  • Provide applicable medical information for completion of Provincial/Territorial insurance forms (including Employer and Worker Accident Report Forms).
  • Coordinate, lead and document Mock Emergency Medical Evacuations.
  • Lead and coordinate any safety or incident investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Provincial/Territorial Health & Safety Regulations, and assist with implementing additional safety requirements, project specific.
  • Monitor work habits for compliance with Health & Safety Policies and Procedures and assist with remedial action when required.
  • Ensure on an ongoing basis that all work sites, including drill sites, have appropriate and fully equipped First Aid Kits.
  • Maintain all required records of mandatory Worker Safety Training, certifications and validations, and ensure same is shared with specific clients as required.
  • Establish and coordinate a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, specific to the work site, and manage the required duties of the Committee (monthly meetings and general inspections).
  • Assist with the delivery of weekly safety meetings and compilation of meeting minutes.
  • Complete and submit on a daily basis a daily log detailing site activity, safety issues, environmental issues (weather) and the activities of the Safety Coordinator.
  • Perform daily general site safety inspections (walk-about)
  • Review the condition of eyewash stations and fire safety equipment on a weekly basis.

Requirements

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in a similar Health & Safety role.
  • Remote camp experience is required.
  • Understanding of legislation and regulations for Occupational Health & Safety in the province or territory of site.
  • Understanding of Mines Safety Act.
  • General understanding of PIPEDA, or applicable legislation, and safe handling of confidential information.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent skills in dealing with conflict resolution.
  • Highly motivated team-oriented individual with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize tasks.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Strong organizational skills to deal with large amounts of documentation and the ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well in critical high stress situations.
  • Familiar with the Medical Evacuations Programs.
  • Maintain diplomacy in the workplace.
  • Must be able to provide medical support to patients and work with the Emergency Response Team.
  • Must be physically capable of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and navigating over rough or uneven terrain.
  • Nature of work requires lifting or moving medium weight objects of up to 50 lbs. to the waist and 20 lbs. above the shoulders.
  • Must be able to tolerate extended periods of standing.
  • Must have the ability to maintain focus in a busy workplace.

Licensing & Certification

  • NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) Certificate is highly desired, or a similar combination of experience and credentials, such as the CRSP designation.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certification would be an asset.
