Nicholas Sheran Elementary School - Kindergarten Teacher

FTE: 0.50 – Temporary

The expected start date is August 25, 2025, and will complete on June 26, 2026, or upon the return of the incumbent.

The competition will remain open May 28, 2025, at 10:00am.

The School

Nicholas Sheran Elementary School serves approximately 350 students alongside an Early Education Program (EEP) and KinderCare. Our school is situated in West Lethbridge on Nicholas Sheran Park. We work alongside our students and families as we learn, grow, and play on the traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy and the Indigenous peoples who are deeply connected to the land. Our values guide us, and students learn the importance of Responsibility, Collaboration, Resilience, and Compassion, each day at our school. Our focus on building strong relationships for the purpose of learning is paired with an emphasis on social-emotional understanding, outdoor learning, foundational literacy and numeracy skills, and co-creating an affirming community for all.

Subjects

Nicholas Sheran Elementary School is looking for an enthusiastic teacher to join their team as a Kindergarten teacher at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. They will demonstrate their commitment to reducing discrimination, bias, and barriers to education for our students, along with a willingness to continuously learn and grow. The successful candidate will be a team player who is energetic, creative, flexible and possesses:

  • A curious and inquisitive outlook, a growth mindset, and an optimistic, student-focused approach to planning for student success in all its diverse forms;
  • An understanding of foundational literacy and numeracy instruction and an appreciation for the range of learning needs and complexities present in a kindergarten classroom;
  • Previous experience showing they value and support play-based learning as an approach to leverage children's natural curiosity and desire to explore;
  • A collaborative approach to teaching and learning, with an understanding of the importance of independent planning that contributes to a strong grade level team, and an appreciation for working alongside colleagues school wide;
  • An appreciation for the importance of creating safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environments for all students within a strongly managed classroom.

Requirements

  • Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.

Conditions of Employment

In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School

Division who are offered employment must provide:

  • A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver's licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee's legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
