Job Description:
Our Control Centre team manages and operates AltaLink's transmission wire facilities in real-time, 24 hours per day. Assets include over 13,000 kilometers of transmission lines and 300 substations. As an AltaLink Control Centre Operator, you play a key role in overseeing the safe and reliable transmission of electricity for our customers and will report to the Manager, ACC Real Time within the System Operation – ACC Real Time Team. The successful candidate must also be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor, control and operate the power system facility assets and fulfill AltaLink's interconnection requirements including:
- Operating the system in accordance with AltaLink's Transmission Operating Procedures, Alberta Reliability Standards (ARC) and North American Electrical Reliability Council (NERC) Operating policies.
- Monitoring adequate voltage and element loading and implementing preventative and corrective action to minimize the number of violations.
- Assessing impact of and implementing the corrective actions required to restore the system to a stable state of minimum risk; and
- Preparing and safely carrying out planned and emergency switching procedures on the power system.
- Provide information concerning the state of the system by logging events, including changes to system components and configuration, and recording disturbances and trouble.
- Compile information and prepare reports for the purposes of documentation updates, compliance evidence, incident investigations, business justifications, customer, and operating metrics, etc.
- Assist the ACC Training Specialist with the implementation of the Operator Training Program by providing technical expertise and mentorship.
- Participate in user acceptance testing for ACC tools and technology to provide SME expertise and feedback. Also provide SME expertise to the broader organization as required.
- Interact with internal business partners and external customers and utility partners to promote collaboration, positive relationships, and excellent customer service.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum requirement of Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma, Power System Electrician or Journeyman Power Lineman or equivalent related utility experience.
- Will be required to attain and maintain NERC certification as a Transmission Operator.
- Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (i.e. Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Knowledge and experience in electricity transmission systems an asset.
- SAP or Oracle experience an asset.
- Communication skills, both verbal and written, that facilitate collaboration, co-operation, and strong performance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that build effective working relationships within a team environment and promote positive customer outcomes.
- Analytical and logical reasoning.
- Ability to work independently, perform multiple tasks, and adapt to fluctuating workload demands in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
- Motivation, including willingness to learn through formal and informal on-the-job training and seek continuous improvement.
- Ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift and occasional overtime as required, such as during system emergencies.
- Valid Driver's License as some travel may be required.
- Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
- Must meet applicable testing requirements.
