POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Electrical Engineer or Designer - Electrical Diagnostic Enhancement, you will join a newly formed Engineering Services team dedicated to enhancing vehicle diagnostics. Your primary focus will be improving our ability to troubleshoot vehicle issues quickly and independently across various platforms. The team will work closely with the Electrical Engineering & Smart Bus Technology groups as a centralized unit, ensuring comprehensive diagnostic coverage and identifying opportunities for improvement across ongoing projects and new systems. Reporting to the Engineering Design Manager – Electrical Diagnostic Enhancement, you will be responsible for engineering design releases, programming, and diagnostic development projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion from design through to production. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to enhance vehicle diagnostics and streamline troubleshooting efforts.

Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Strategize, develop, and execute innovative diagnostic strategies across transit and coach vehicle platforms, ensuring effective system integration.
  • Lead diagnostic system integration efforts, including project scoping, scheduling, prototyping, and validation planning.
  • Evaluate new product lines for comprehensive diagnostic coverage and address any system-level gaps.
  • Align vehicle diagnostic development with strategic goals to enhance troubleshooting and move toward universal diagnostic solutions.
  • Collaborate with the bids team to assess customer diagnostic requirements, ensure technical compliance, and support approved equals.
  • Prepare project status reports and data related to control systems objectives and diagnostics.
  • Participate in design reviews, ISO26262 functional safety assessments, and cybersecurity threat evaluations.
  • Provide cross-functional engineering support to Production, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service teams.
  • Manage vendor and customer interactions for design-related issues, including documentation and approvals.
  • Complete electrical engineering design, analysis, and documentation to support diagnostic development and ensure performance compliance.
  • Develop electrical designs that align with customer specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and contract requirements.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, participate in FMEAs, hazard analyses, and ensure proper engineering documentation and release.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant industry or technology experience.
  • Familiarity with software development, control system design principles, and electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of control system algorithms.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with PLCs and programming languages such as C, C++, or Python.
  • Hands-on knowledge of CAN networking, J1939, Ethernet, and wireless communication protocols.
  • Experience with Linux development and Unigraphics (NX CAD).
  • Background in power electronics and/or control system hardware design.
  • Functional diagram and structured text programming experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor or train team members.
