The Role

Reporting to the Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer (CAMLO), the Director, AML is responsible for overseeing the regulatory compliance management component of the Anti-Money Laundering ("AML/ATF") program. The Director AML Compliance will assist the CAMLO in the development, implementation and oversight of the organizations AML/ATF Program and processes to ensure the Neo continues to be in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards.

What you'll be doing:

  • You lead and oversee the Neo's AML/ATF program and management of the AML/ATF team
  • You independently assess the effectiveness of the AML/ATF program and provide regular reporting to Senior Management and the Board on the effectiveness of the AML/ATF program
  • You work with Directors and Managers to develop and implement appropriate assessments of inherent AML risks at Neo, considering all factors relevant to the assessment of such risks.
  • You updates inherent risk assessment(s) to ensure that Neo's AML program remains current and designed to mitigate evolving risks
  • You oversee AML control activities in all business areas to ensure a reasonable level of control consistency appropriate to assessed risks
  • You ensure that the self-assessment of AML controls is completed on an annual basis, and any other control reviews or testing deemed necessary; including receiving reports from the business units attesting to their compliance, receiving audit results from Internal Audit and the Compliance Department and requesting any further audit testing as required to assess AML risk.
  • You document, implement, and maintain appropriate AML policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws and regulations for approval of the CAMLO, Senior Management and the Board of Directors, as necessary
  • You provide appropriate input and review of procedures designed to implement control measures in all business areas to meet the requirements of the AML Program
  • You develop and deliver all necessary AML Compliance communication including ongoing training programs for Senior Management, all employees, the Board of Directors and anyone authorized to act on Neo's behalf in respect of AML requirements
  • You ensure that systems and other processes that generate information used in reports to Senior Management and the Board of Directors are adequate and appropriate, use reasonably consistent reporting criteria, and generate accurate information
  • You review and make final decisions in respect of all AML/ATF reports including those related to Suspicious/Attempted Suspicious Transaction Reports
  • You prepare monthly and quarterly reports to Senior Management and the Board in respect of the AML program, its adequacy, any detected issues or deficiencies based on compliance testing
  • You review and comment on any new and relevant regulatory and industry developments

Who we're looking for:

  • A University degree in law, finance, business or related discipline
  • A professional designation in Anti-Money Laundering
  • 8+ years financial services, banking or fintech industry experience with at least 4 years' experience managing people
  • Solid understanding of financial products gained from at least five years banking or fintech related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of all applicable AML regulations and a proven ability to keep abreast of the changes and developments by monitoring industry and legislative publications
  • Proven experience with AML Compliance investigations with experience using FINTRAC web reporting solution
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including influencing at the highest levels of the Neo
  • Strong analytical, investigative, reporting and planning skills
  • Experience in a Federally Regulated Financial Institution is an asset
