PHASOR Engineering Inc. is a dynamic consulting firm specializing in the engineering and design of overhead & underground transmission/distribution systems, substations, fibre optics, as well as substation and transmission foundations. Our expertise allows us to be involved in a diverse range of projects from conceptual engineering through to commissioning and startup.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Engineering Design Manager to join our engineering team on a full time basis. This role can be based out of our Mississauga office. We offer a dynamic work environment with an extremely experienced technical team, where you will be continuously challenged in all aspects of the engineering and design process.

Responsibilities:

· Experience in the civil, structural, electrical engineering, construction, and telecommunications industry.

· Supervises the design of all capital projects including customer, reactive and capital distribution projects.

· Plans, schedules, and organizes electrical distribution system projects, oversees their implementation, and reports on their status. This includes preparing budget and detailed estimates, completing designs, obtaining necessary approvals, and coordinating with construction team, municipalities, subcontractors, and customers to ensure timely project information and updates.

· Plans, organizes, and supervises the daily activities of the design staff, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to project timelines, and maintaining high-quality standards.

· Coordinates and participates in site plan reviews to proactively identify potential challenges and hydro servicing requirements for all types of proposed developments/infrastructure upgrades.

· Ensures designs are completed with sufficient lead time and within capital budget and KPI requirements.

· Conducts the process review and continual improvement of the design/build cycle to align with industry best practices.

· Interact with internal / external contacts as necessary for design details.

· Experience in any Quickpole, SpidaCalc, PLS CADD is an advantage.

· Experience with Aerial Communications line & poles inspections or design. Using CSA 22.3 No. 1-20 Overhead Systems. and O.Reg. 22/04 guidelines.

· Knowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) are also highly desired.

· Collect, interpret, and organize project engineering and vendor data.

· Interface with senior personnel to resolve potential technical and project issues.

· Assist in compiling and maintaining internal engineering standards and work practices.

· Coordinate with other business units to verify their project design requirements and delivery schedule.

· Offers coaching, development, performance management, and technical guidance to the design staff, providing expert advice and support to enhance their skills and performance.

· Liaises with internal and external stakeholders to assist in the successful coordination and delivery of project/ execution.

· Forecasts work volumes and resourcing; prioritizes and manages work flows to ensure all internal and external deadlines are met.

Qualifications:

· The successful candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in civil or electrical engineering with a minimum of Five years' related experience, and a broad knowledge of electrical distribution systems.

· Knowledge of the Microsoft office software suite of programs.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an attention to detail are essential.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Toronto Hydro Standards.

· Familiarity with power system operations, practices, and installation standards would be ideal.

· Experience in process optimization, designing, mapping and successfully rolling out new initiatives to the organization.

· Extensive knowledge of best practices in utility engineering planning and asset management.

· Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
